good place to buy a home in atlanta
Hello folks,
I am looking for sugesstions, on some places to buy a home in atlanta. I work in downtown, and my husband works in duwnoody. Ideally i would preder Dunwoody area, since we have rented here for a year, and we absolutely love it here. however, i dont see much new construction happening here, and not many new townhomes in our price range (280k+ to low $300's)
Please suggesst, how are; Roswell, Alpharetta (the part thats closer to marta station), Decatur, Marietta areas also. I take the train to work now. ideally, if i drive to downtown, i wouldnt want to drive for more than 20 miles one way (or i should be a few miles away from the marta station). I know those areas have their good and bad parts also, however, i wanted a general idea on how the loactions are (especially Roswell, and marietta).
I am looking for a location thats diverse, safe, that has good schools (we dont have kids, but to ensure a resale value).
Any advice would be appreciated!

What about living in Midtown? You could take the train downtown and your husband could take it to Dunwoody...

Smyrna/Vinings right around the perimeter is great. It's got lots of nice restaurants, bars, and shopping (check out The Vinings Jubilee!) There is still a lot of growth happening here, too, and there are some great deals on townhomes. For whatever reason, I find that you just can't get as much for your money in other nice areas on the northside of town.
My wife works downtown, also. It's only a short trip straight down Atlanta Rd. (which is nice if you want to avoid highway traffic).
These townhomes are inside the permiter and are very cool... www.palladianmanor.com
I stopped in a couple of weeks ago and haven't seen anything like them before. Very nice and totally unique with a ton of space. I'm actually considering them myself. They seem a little slow like everybody else but it's a small community (only 20-something homes). Plus, they're a local builder, which I like. You should check them out.

Have you considered the North Druid Hills area? It would seem to be a good midpoint for your and your husband's commute, and there should be plenty of townhouse options in your range.

Thanks for all the replies. We have kind of finalized Smyrna area to buy a home. Its is close to Downtown to my work, and also fairly ok distance to Dunwoody, my husband's work..
However, we still are deciding which areas in Smyrna are the good one's..

There are lots of nice areas south of Windy Hill Road. I personally like the areas along Atlanta Road, Cooper Lake Road, and Ridge Road, but I'm sure there are plenty of other nice areas in southern and central Smyrna.
