It's on the north side of town. Edgewater's location would require you to fight Gainesville traffic to get to Oakwood(which currently is a traffic nightmare all of its own) and the college. It's not horrendous but can be VERY frustrating depending on the time of day. I'd stick with south of town considering your needs. FYI: Anything with a 30506 zip code will probably not be the most convenient location for you. Good Luck!

Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't really even considered how traffic would be...I've been to Gainesville once before..and it seemed pretty desolate...

Looks like places in Oakwood are slim pickin's...I found Kingswood South Apartmends...and Oakcrest Apartments....

I also recieved a call from ProMove, I'm leaving Savannah tomorrow to head up to Gainesville around 5, and I've got an appointment with Promove for 10am.

This is alot.

I have been to Oakwood and it is a very small town. However, there is a lot of growth in this area and there may be more options than can be located online. I would stop by the college and ask if they have suggestions for students seeking housing in the area. Some of the local realtors may handle rentals.

hth

LOL--I am happy to hear that the party attending Emory will be living on campus. It would be a very bad commute from Duluth or Gainesville to Emory daily.

When you get settled there are some beautiful spots on Lake Lanier. There is a nice park at Buford Dam and another in Suwanee. Slope's BBQ in Cumming is good. I love their BBQ chicken.

Yeah? I kind of figured...looking at it from the air with google earth, it doesn't look big at all. Which I'm going to like. That is also a good idea, I was planning on that aswell. It'd be nice if some local places had some deals for students since GSC doesn't have campus housing.

Yeah...she is definitely going to be in the dorms. I'm sure it would KILL trying to get through Atlantas traffic, from either place EVERY day.

I was wrong on my post above, I'm leaving NEXT Wednesday to go up to Oakwood. Gotta reschedule with the promove people

Can anyone give me an estimated figure on what I would be spending on utilities? Electricity, water, ect? I'm trying to make myself a spreadsheet, figure out what I'm going to need to survive up there. Gotta know how much to either take with me, or how much I'll need to work. More details below.

I figured internet/tv would be $70 for the first 6 months, then $100/mo after that through comcast. I figured $820 for my ten month duration. Are there any local places that I should consider checking in to?

As far as electricity and water, it will be just me. Everything will be off during the day, and I don't have any pets or anything. I'm a conservative person, always turning the lights off after I leave a room, don't leave the doors wide open when the ac is on, stuff like that. I don't really watch tv all too much. (I guess all those years of my parents telling me to turn the light off is starting to pay off) I shower nightly, drink a lot of water, and cook for myself a ton. Fastfood/eating out isn't really my style.

Thanks for the help so far

Other people may have more specific FYI on utitilities and cable expenses.

In some apartment complexes water is included and you pay for electricity/gas. I just don't know. I suspect you could find a little house to rent in this area or a duplex which might be a better option.

The Mall of Georgia is in this area and you might actually find housing in the surrounding communities--Cumming is not far and many have homes on Lake Lanier which might be a very pleasant place to live. I don't know the roads up there that well but if you don't have a daily commute to Atlanta it is a nice area in which to live. Buford is another small town/community--that could also go on the list.

I know someone in admissions at the college. Apparently there are some brand new apartments behind the college on Atlanta Hwy (hwy 13, I think) that were built for the students. I don't think they're "officially" student housing but many students live there and they possibly offer student rates Sorry I don't know the name but I'm sure you could call the college or just drive by. They are right next to the exit on 985N

Really? That's absolutely fantastic to hear. Thank you very much. I am traveling up there this Wednesday, and will be sure to check it out!

Hi, I have lived in duluth for about 4 years. There are several apartment complexes on peactree industrial blvd in the price range you may be looking for. I used to live in wesley plantation very nice complex but not in the right price range. My mom also lived in Howell Bridge, it would be in your range and nice apartments, but the management sucked. I just moved to merritt at satellite in february and love it, we got a one bedroom and it was 620.00 Very nice community and its in between discover mills mall and gwinnett place. There prices change daily, so I kept and eye on their website before we came to sign our lease. I have seen the prices for as low as 589. I suggest checking apartmentratings.com, it really helped me alot and I was able to get value feedback from the residents on certain apartment complexes.

I hope this helps
