Moving to either Gainesville or Duluth, need apartment help.
Hey there. I'm moving to either Gainesville or Duluth in August. I'm starting out my first year of college. I live in Savannah, and can't necessairly just drive up there after school one day to scout out apartment complexes to stay in.
My question is, are there any places that anyone would reccomend, that are SUB-$560 a month? Anything up to $560 a month.
I'm new at this obviously, and I'm looking for a place that'll have all my needs covered. Washer/Dryer, internet woud be GREAT, along with other basics.
Cable TV isn't a big deal, and a pool/playground/clubhouse aren't priorities to me at all.
Looking for a 1 bed 1 bath place just to stay for the next 10 months of my life. Any/ALL help will be greatly appreciated.
Also, any other tips/pointers about the area will be great too.

I think you should do as much research online as you can and then take a 3 day weekend trip to Atlanta and check things out yourself.
You could try Craig's List --apts/houses/condos to share with roommates.
There might be something in your price range but it might be further from 'civilization'/convenient to shopping restaurants/business than you would prefer.

A drive isn't really a big deal to me. Considering I'd be going to school in Gainesville, but looking for a place 30 minutes away in Duluth.
This is a part of my research I guess. I found out that there aren't too many places in Gainesville.
The hunt continues!

Try Braselton, GA>>>
Town of Braselton, Georgia
IIRC, it's between Duluth and Gainesville. Flowery Branch is another place to try. It's on/near Lake Lanier and I know there are some older homes and mobile homes for rent there. Not a bad drive.

Gainesville State College is where I'll be for my first year.
Amli?
Upon searching myself, I've found a few places with the name "Lanier" in it, it got a little confusing.
Thanks for the Braselton, GA suggestion, but the reason why it's Duluth is because my other half is at Emory

Gotcha--
My inclination is to suggest that you search for housing in the part of 'Duluth' that is located near Peachtree Industrial Blvd--so that the person commuting to Emory has a fighting chance. You could also add Peachtree Corners to your search area --about 10 miles south of Duluth and there are many apartments, condos and townhomes on Holcomb Bridge Rd/Spalding Drive. Stay west of Norcross/Buford Hwy.

Smacking my head---
ProMove is an apartment locator service, free, IIRC. You could contact them and perhaps save yourself hours of frustration. Many have been satisfied with this service.

I live in Gainesville and I wouldn't want to have to commute to Duluth every day. Figure about 40 minutes. Traffic gets pretty bad down there too on the interstate. Gas prices are now up to $2.15 again and climbing.
I'm not sure how much rents are around here, but there is a place down the road from me that keeps advertising specials on the sign out front. (it's on Thompson Bridge Rd/ Hwy 60 if that helps). I will try to get the name when I drive by again. Seems to be a nice place and in a good area. I think one bedrooms might start around $600 though.

Well, actually the one going to Emory will be in the dorms. I'm just trying to be close...without being too far...if that makes any sense. I just filled out some information on the ProMove website you provided. Thank you, I hope it is useful.

Really, is the drive bad? I was going to try to get a place as close as possible to 985..but is it really a terrible drive? I've got a truck now, but I will only have that untill I'm done moving everything into my apartment...I'll be selling it and getting a more fuel efficient honda of some sort soon after I move. Looking ot get something that gets in the range of 30-40mpg, like a smaller civic or CRX or something. That way, MPG's won't be on my mind as much as they are now.
I'm coming up to Gainesville on Wednesday to check things out...if there are any addresses you can give me, I'll be sure to save them and keep them with me so I can visit once I'm up there.
Do you know anything about this place? Edgewater on Lanier - Gainesville Apartments
