All -

I've read several posts on this forum however I can't seem to find one that helps in answering my question. I'm a 28 yr old single female looking to relocate to Atlanta from the Chicago area.

I'm a little different from some of the "hipsters" in that I'm not interested in moving to the Midtown/Buckhead area. I tend to lean more towards the family-oriented, suburban (but still not too far away from the city) communities. I'm interested in purchasing a newer construction (1-5 yrs), single family home (max 200k) in a nice community outside of the immediate downtown area. Here's the catch, I travel weekly for my job so I need something that isn't too far away from the airport or at least would allow me to travel against the flow of traffic during the early morning rush hour.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd look in Smyrna or Vinings...some amazing deals on new construction that's undersold...but for that price you'll have to go with a condo

I agee, Smyrna or Vining are nice areas to live in, but Kennesaw or Actworth are also excellent locations. I am from the south side of Chicago and I have lived in Georgia for nine years. I currently live in Kennesaw, but my daily business and shopping usually takes place in Smyrna, Marrietta, or Vinings. If you would like assistance locating a home, I am an Real Estate Agent. You have already made an excellent choice to relocate to Atlanta! I wish you well.

As the others have said, Smyrna and Vinings have the feel you may be looking for, but even going against the flow, traffic may be more than you want to deal with from those areas to the airport.

Just North of Buckhead is an area called "Brookhaven". It's inside the Perimeter (beltway), but some of the neighborhoods have a closer-in suburban feel to them. Plus, you would have the advantage of having the Brookhaven MARTA rail station there, so you could just park there and ride straight into the Airport station when you need to with no worries at all about traffic.

Isn't that a bit far from the airport for her?

I'd suggest you look at Fayetteville.

E.g.:

Ok.

So far I've heard Smyrna, Vinings, Kennesaw?, Acworth? and Fayetteville.

I have a condo now and really would prefer not to take the condo/townhouse route. Therefore, Smyrna and Vinings may not be feasible options. However, I'll keep these places in mind when I fly into town early next month.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Smyrna is mostly houses, not townhouses/condos.

First of all, the commute to the Airport from Smyrna near the Paces Ferry Rd. and South Cobb Dr. interchanges on I-285 is about 25 minutes - and that is even during the morning rush hour. You can find older houses in Smyrna less than $200K if you look between King Springs Rd. and S,. Cobb Dr. and in some of the older neighborhoods west of S. Cobb Dr. But, make sure that you stay south of Concord Rd. unless you are east of S. Cobb Dr. and south of Powder Springs Rd. Smyrna is very pocketed so it is very important that you know the area before you buy. You will be very impressed with the Smyrna Market Village on Atlanta Rd. and also the nearby Vinings Village inside I-285.
