They are considering a town center plan for the area around the Avis Williams Library. They must be getting closer to proceeding. Lots of things to consider but this area should be a good place to live for many.

There is supposed to be a vote on this this week. The developer is dragging his heels about submitting a plan, so the county is telling them to "present" or get off the pot. Frankly, I'm not in favor of it. Williamsburg Apts are clean, well-run and attractive and give the seniors that live there access to the library, medical offices and Mason Mill Park (which they are using a lot). If the clock ain't broke...
Interestingly, DeKalb is apparently requiring a minimum allocation of housing in these 'town centers' for seniors...good news for those of us fast approaching that status.

Thanks for summarizing, LD. I started reading an email about this and got 'lost' after a few paragraphs.

It seems like Executive Park is a better place for a town center from what little I know of traffic patterns and other considerations.

Yes, that and Toco Hills...which I think would be a more appropriate redevelopment project than Williamsburg. I would love to see North Druid Hills/North Decatur have a "Town Center".

I think it would be good. Then North DeKalb Mall can get growing.

Consider renting a place in the school district you want to be in -- for example, there are many rental properties available in the Fernbank School District, which is close to Emory and convenient to the Law School. I'm from Maine originally and went to school in Boston a thousand years ago -- you are going to love the Atlanta area.
