Default Cobb County Teaching Positions

Hi everyone, my wife andI are looking to move to Cobb County. I may have secured a job at Southern Polytechnic State University-Marietta. My wife is a K-6 teacher certified in NY and KY with a total of 15 years experience. We currently live in Louisville.
My question is "What is the likelyhood that she could land a job for the fall. We are looking to move in July but can do what it takes to secure a position right now" Any help and advise would be most welcome!

Probably very low. No school districts are doing much hiring especially at the elementary level.

It is very bad right now for people looking for teaching jobs.

Very miniscule chance. Cobb is not doing any outside hiring until all of their teachers are placed--there are a lot of teachers being transferred from one school to another due to lower enrollments and budget cuts. My school in particular lost over 10 teachers, an administrator, and a counselor.

Add to this the fact that they are getting rid of their Area Lead Teacher program and placing all of them back in the classroom (some are going into admin, but not all)...same thing with their Technology Integration Specialist department.

All of that, plus Cobb County is a desirable system in which to teach. Teachers tend to hold onto jobs there.

Most people in our Elementary school who have gotten positions have subbed for a year or so bfore getting hired. Many of my friends and neighbors work quite often just by getting on the list (apply through website) and take a short course in Sept or Oct. Once you get your foot in the door you can sub pretty often. I know of about 5 or 6 people who have gone this route and ended up with a position.

Sorry that probably won't help you for now. We are in East Cobb and I know that this way works at several of the schools around here. At least in East Cobb its all about getting your foot in the door and who you know.

Although Cobb County teacher salaries are among the lowest in Metro Atlanta...or at least they were when I taught there back in 2002.

They still are until you hit around mid-career level with additional degrees.

Co-Sign on it being about who you know. It's like that right now and I'm in SW Cobb. I'm afraid to see how many people apply for a long-term sub position when I have to go out on maternity leave later this school year.
