Default Sandy Springs

We are relocating from Chicago. We have three kids and would like to consider public schools. Few questions -
Sounds like Riverwoods High School would be best choice in Buckhead, right?
What are the top five high schools in Atlanta, in relation to SAT scopes and AP class offerings?
Is Sandy Springs actually in Buckhead?
Thanks!!

No, Sandy Springs is not in Buckhead. Its a city just north of Buckhead. Buckhead is Atlanta.

Sandy Springs is a good place to live and Riverwood is a good high school.

We are looking in the 900,000 to $1,200,000 price range. Want to be close to Norcross and easy access to airport. Our main concern is schools, really at high school and middle school level.

Riverwood is a good Fulton County School and is in a very nice area (definitely within your price range). Don't get confused, though, as Fulton County Schools and City of Atlanta schools are two different districts. Sandy Springs is an incorporated city now, while Buckhead is really more of a "state of mind."

Check out Henderson Middle School and Lakeside High School in the Decatur area. You'd be halfway between Norcross and the airport.

Actually, Norcross High and Pickneyville Middle are excellent for high achieving students as they have a top notch, well established IB programme. How old will your students be when you move here?

I wouldn't pick Lakeside for lots of reasons... they are getting their 3rd new principal in about 5 years and have a lot of internal struggles. I hope that this new principal can reset the course of the school.

Riverwood is excellent.

ITA, lmm, and would go with Riverwood given the suggestions so far. I have known several friends whose kids came up through RW over the last few years that have been very happy with the experience. As far as neighborhoods, I would suggest the OP focus on the areas off of Riverside Drive (up to Johnson Ferry Rd) and Heards Ferry Rd.

This area of Sandy Springs has homes over 13 million dollars and new ones going up all over the place. Sandy Springs is ranked as the 7th wealthiest city in the USA with over 50,000 residence.
