Rap/hip-hop are huge. LOVE the music and am a big fan of it myself. However, seems like you're doing some soul searching (no pun intended) here and this is not the place to do it. Maybe you should speak with a psychologist or some one in the socialogy department of your local college. They might be able to help you identify the importance of "black culture." My personal opinion: black folks have played (and continue to play) a big role in the U.S. culture...not just Atlanta's culture...which is why this thread is inappropriate here. Good luck.

Apparently no one can agree on what "black culture" is. So why are there forum trolls who keep bringing it up and saying they hate it?

Cultural differences can be fascinating but it's unfortunate that discussions like this so often turn ugly.

Here's something that caught my eye the other day. Saturday we visited some friends in SW Atlanta and were driving back up Cascade around 7 pm. I noticed there were a bunch of barbershops and beauty salons open, all bustling with customers. I know hair places are important gathering places in many cultures but I was curious about the Saturday night thing. Is is just coincidence that so many places were open or is there a tradition there?

At the risk of keeping this thread on the front page, most people work, go to school, etc. doing the week. Barbershops/salons are generally closed on Sundays. Saturdays are the days when people get haircuts/styling and people end up hanging around until Saturday evenings either because the demand is so high and the barbers/sylists are still working at that hour or they get engaged in conversation.

Exactly. Why complain about trolls and then bump a topic that's nearly three years old (?).

Can you hear it?..... (sound of door closing).
