Default How is the area of Emory/Sagamore Hills Elem

I believe this is in Decatur? Is it safe, and would I be able to take Marta downtown? I looked at Great Schools and the elementary had respectable ratings and reviews. Also, the rental I am considering has an Atlanta address but the schools are in Dekalb county. Why is this?

The other option I have seen is in the Brookhaven/Buckhead area. Is that a good school district? I assume the commute to downtown would be good from there.

It seems like the Oak Grove area has a Decatur zipcode but it is actually about 5 miles north of Decatur and the closest MARTA stations would be Brookhaven or Lindbergh--you would need to drive to park or catch a bus to the station.

Unincorporated DeKalb County is assigned Atlanta zipcodes--a map might help identify the boundaries.

I believe that most of Sagamore Hills falls into Decatur 30033, and a small part into Atlanta 30345 (both are unincorporated DeKalb County). Either way, it's a great neighborhood. If this area interests you, also check out Leafmore Hills, Briarcliff Woods, Echo Woods, Echo Lake, Briarlake, Breckinridge and Amberwood. These neighboroods fall within a larger area referred to as Oak Grove (check that elem school's rating as well). IMO it is one of the best areas of Atlanta in which to live.
Buckhead loosely covers the northern quarter of the city of Atlanta, and has a number of elem school districts within it's limits ie Jackson, Morris Brandon, E. Rivers, Sarah Smith...most are very good. Brookhaven is in the DeKalb County school district. The only elem school I'm acquainted with within its' area is Ashford Park, about which I've heard pretty good things.

The DeKalb County/Fulton County (and/or City of Atlanta) line is a mile or so north of Lenox Square--and the school systems are different. In DeKalb County/Brookhaven I've heard that Ashford Park is a good school.

If you have selected particular houses/subdivisions posters might be able to give more specific FYI.

For me, living close in, if I have to get in a car to drive to a MARTA station, it is hard to not just drive into town.

Consider looking within walking distance in the Ashford Park district, or consider the same scenario for the City of Decatur.

Oak Grove is not really that convinient to MARTA.
