Default Relocating to Georgia

Hello
I am requesting honest information from those that are familiar with Gwinnett Co. GA. My family and I will be relocating this summer and would like to know if Gwinnett is the best place for my children to attend school and for me to pursue my healthcare career? Thanks in advance for your input

Two new hospitals have opened in the area. There's Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth that opened in 10/2006 and the new Emory Johns Creek hospital that opened on 2/2007 (Emory is not in Gwinnett Co, but a few short miles away on the Fulton/Forsyth county line). With these hospitals there will be a buildup of close-by medical support services so you shouldn't have a problem finding a job in the area.

The Gwinnett/S. Forsyth/N. Fulton area is growing tremendously, and the need for good healthcare personnel is growing along with it. Good schools abound in this area, along with family-friendly activities and subdivisions that cater to families.

You didn't mention a S.O.; if you have home you both should have jobs lined up before considering an area in which to live, as traffic is absolutely horrible here. From my observation Gwinnett, because of uncontrolled growth, is the worst. Anyway, take any mapquest travel time estimate and double it for non-rush hour, triple for rush hour.

I'll repeat the Atlanta forum mantra: live near where you work, work near where you live!

Near Gwinnett are several other counties--Forsyth, Hall and Jefferson, Jackson, Barrow...

Some very nice areas from which to choose...

I'll just name a few cities/towns--some in Gwinnett and some in other counties--same area---Suwanee, Buford,Flowery Branch, Lawrenceville, Duluth, Cumming, Gainesville, Dacula, Oakwood, Braselton to name a few.

Posters really seem to like the Hamilton Mills area for families--somewhere 'close' to John's Creek and that is as the crow flies.

Here's a map:

You just have to drive through yourself to really understand the area.

Gwinnett does have some of the best public and private schools in the Atlanta area. You can find the school report cards and other information at http://www.gwinnett.k12.ga.us/gcps-mainweb01.nsf/pages/NewcomerMain0~QuickLinks (broken link). Personally, Mill Creek, one of our newest schools, is going to be one great school. Parkview and Brookwood are also very sought after schools.

Traffic here is a little bad, but we are continually inproving our highway systems to improve traffic flow. Some of our major interstates are currently under construction which right now leads to heavy congestion. But it is still not as bad as other areas in the country!
