Going by what the FBI posted in the UCR 2008. Atlanta is a lot safer than those cities posted. I'd rather believe our mayor instead of "other" people who have been president

Only if they can afford them and can take care of them. No one should have children if they can't meet that test. Asking other people to pay for and/or raise your children isn't fair to other citizens or to the children.

Unfortunately, this is pie in the sky logic. If we want to address the issues at hand, we need to come up with approaches/solutions which are grounded in reality.
But Neil, methinks you responded to a troll - and now here I am responding to you.

Make food stamps only eligible to purchase healthy staples like rice, beans and broccolli instead of junk. The recipients would be much healthier as a bonus. Hold the fathers accountable. Start with those two things and I bet you will see more personal responsibility.

Atlanta, We are Growing, So is Crime!
Some of this is due in no small part to a higher unemployment rate and lack of viable opportunity. No excuse for crime. There is never any excuse for bad behavior. The only thing we can do is fight back - hard!
You know, concealed permits are okay. Ask the kid that got shot in the leg near Georgia State recently for his ATM pin. Crime is pretty high here. Saying NYC has more murders is a bit mis-leading too. It is judge on a per capita basis.
The crooks are becomming more bold, Katrina transplants have had some affect as well. Policing is probably average. I'm sure they do their best but, more police, more prisons/jails, are probably in order.
Meaning? Shoot back, phone incidents in more, use more cameras, elect tougher officials.
I would ask Shirley but, hey, she has tax problems with her husband we no longer hear about so pretty hard to believe she would be the best one to pursue.
Atlanta Government: Quit making execuses covering for your constituency. Step up, represent better, demand more, defend your city. Your seats are safe, look at your voting block. At least make it safe enough to consider going downtown.
If I am wrong, tell me why all the development and the majority of businesses are moving North out of the city?

Follow Up
Oh yeah, I forgot, Bush is not to blame for Atlanta's problems. This isn't from the Bush days. You have had plenty of gangsta's, Loc Dog's, Rappers, and all kinds of ill shiite before he ever took office. Can't blame the white guy this time.
I know some of might think so but, Bush doesn't have the clout, conspiracies or power of the force you thought he once had. It's just the voices in your head. The one's Pelosi, BO, and others put there...
Hey, maybe this is some more of the "change we can believe in"...for the worse...
Regards

Good point Joe. They don't seem to have enough neglected ones already. Nothing says "hood" more than a street full of bored kids with no parents in sight.

Im not here to praise Shirley Franklin.I do think the job she is doing is adequate at best from when she first entered when she was doing very well.It makes no difference to me if someone does not care for a public figure but to suggest that someone is something they are not should be corrected.Shirley Franklin has not been married to her ex husband who died last year(maybe why you have "heard nothing"),since 1986.
I do agree that more people need to hold these elected officials accountable. Also we do need more
tougher judges
As far as the majority of business moving out of the city is SO NOT TRUE!.You pulled that one out of some orifice of your body from somewhere deep. The city population of people moving in is frenetic. The businesses are right behind.Of course the economic slump is has had some effect of slowing things down a little.
