Help with the Big Move
Hello my soon to be Atlanta family. My name is Leslie and I will be moving to the Atlanta or surronding areas in 2010 between June-August. I will be moving with two children, one in preschool and the other in elementary. I am interested in knowing a few areas that will be suitable for me being a single parent where I can raise my children until I decide to buy a home. I have heard a lot about Gwinnett County but in research the cost to live there is a bit high, but I am sure someone on here will give me more details regarding this area. I am open to any suggestions you all may have. Dont be shy I dont bit...lol And if you have any other info that will be pertaining to my move, please send me a holler..Thanks everyone..Hope to see all of you soon..Take Care. (oh, my price range for a rental house or apt is bewteen $600-850, and I will be working in the Computer Science Field)

The location of your place of employment will be a major priority. Truthfully, finding a 2 Bdr apt/house in your price range will not be easy.

Your price range is spot on..... for an apartment.
And a nice one at that.
With Atlanta suburbs, the general rule of thumb is the farther out you go, the more house you get for the $.
As takeahike said though, you will need to find a place close to your job or you will spend all day in the car.

Off the top of my head I believe $850-1,000 might be the price range for 2BDR apts/houses.
Many people enjoy living in Dacula--northeast Gwinnett.

It's a large county and difficult to explain without identifying a specific area.

Here's a link to Craig's List/Dacula--

ProMove is an apt locator service that might also be a resource.

As far as savings goes, i will be bringing a pretty large nest egg, say around 10k...do you think this is enough for two children and a adult? and I do have connections in Atlanta. I had a job interview recently with Georgia Power but the pay grade they were offering was very low compare to what I make now..I have two friends that live there now, and a few family members that have been helpful as well. So i am just trying to use all resources as much as possible. Get different prospectives or what not..I thank you all for all the different information you have given..Keep it coming. This is so informative and helpful. Now as far as good school systems and preschools, any recommendations????

You can burn through $10k in 2 months without even trying- especially with utility deposits, rent security, and all of the stuff you always end up buying whenever you move. I'd think long and hard about moving without a job if that's all the $$ you've got to work with.
