But I didn't offer the list as proof that there aren't Jews in those areas, or that those areas aren't where many Jews choose to live -- I made that same point myself. I offered it specifically to counter the statement that there are only a "few" synagogues.

Not in Lawrenceville, perhaps, but in Norcross (and an Orthodox shul, no less) -- Congregation Beth Yitzakh, 5054 Singleton Rd, Norcross, GA 30093. Or in Snellville, Temple Beth David (Reform), 1885 McGee Rd, Snellville, GA 30078. Does Fayetteville count as "southside"? 'Cause there you have Congregation B'nai Israel. There're also synagogues in Dahlonega and Rome.
My point's not really to beat you up or even debate this. It's to point out that your posts are offering up outdated, subjective information that may have been accurate years ago but no longer is. Things change.
You're absolutely right about where the highest concentrations of Jews live. You're on shakier ground about the utter absence of more than a few scattered and disconnected Jews elsewhere in the region. A non-observant family who feels a cultural connection to Jewishness is not going to feel out of place in most parts of the Atlanta area, but will find more families like them in the areas you've called out.

Sigh. There are five Goldberg's locations -- Dunwoody, Johnson Ferry Rd. in East Cobb, Roswell Rd in Buckhead, West Paces Ferry Rd at Northside Dr, and Midtown (1197 Peachtree). Not to mention Bagel Palace, in Toco Hills, which many of us prefer (though I do love Goldberg's as well). Or Bagel Break in Sandy Springs (the place our synagogue usually buys from). Or Brooklyn Bagel in Johns Creek (my local -- easier for me to get to on an early Sunday morning than the others, and decent enough). Ah -- nearly forgot about Grouchy's NY Deli: two locations, one in Alpharetta and one in the Peachtree Corners area. Bagel Boys Deli in Alpharetta isn't perfectly authentic, but the bagels aren't bad. Bagelicious is not far from the Goldberg's location in East Cobb. And those are just the ones I can name off the top of my head -- I could no doubt find more if I looked.
Now, someone will no doubt be along in a couple of femtoseconds to say "Yeah, but none of those places have real, authentic bagels like I used to get in [Manhattan|Brooklyn|Chicago|Philadelphia|Baltimore| wherever]". And they're probably right -- but 90% of a great bagel is still a pretty darn good thing. So "two locations" in this case is pretty much the same as describing 42 synagogues as a "few".

I agree with Rackensack, that Shagbark's advice is outdated. You should find this very helpful:
Highlights of Jewish Community Centennial Study 2006
Some highlights from this study:
"Atlanta's Jewish community now outnumbers Miami, Metro West New Jersey, Detroit, Baltimore and San Diego."
"From 1996 to 2006, metro Atlanta moved from 17th place in 1996 to 11th place in 2006 in terms of national Jewish population, an increase of 58%."
This study also gives you the metro areas with the largest Jewish populations.

Everyone knows the Jews live in Boca, not Miami. And on Long Island, not Jersey.

Must be talking about populations within city limits. There is no way in hell metro atlanta's jewish population outnumbers miami-dade county but I could easily see how it would outnumber jews living within the confines of the city of miami.
As for the mixup on the bagel joints...
I stand corrected. There is not one bagel joint in town but two bagel joints and I honestly thought there were only two goldbergs but evidently there are 5. I didn't know this. My mistake.

I'd imagine our jewish population is growing rapidly with the mass exodus from south florida and other places with fewer opportunities. Practicing Jews will find the aforementioned areas most comfortable. I'll leave it at that.
The two Goldbergs I've been in had iffy sanitation scores so I'd say B.Y.O.B. (Bring your own bagels.)
