you have to remember city fanatic that many countries actually did start out as very ethnically diverse and have become, are becoming, or staying successful. Places like Germany housed many different germanic tribes such as the visigoths and people from gaul. China is composed of about 51 different ethnic groups and the UK has been experiencing immigration for centuries now, it just hasn't been a wave of immigration until recently. God made us all different, so why should we only keep to ourselves?

City-Fanatic,

Maybe if the founding fathers weren't so busy importing slaves to work their farms you'd have this lily white dream of yours.

Xenophobia has been a wonderful rallying cry for the laziest of people since the beginning of time. 150 years ago people were deathly afraid of the damage the Irish would do despite being just as white as everyone else. They were so afraid of the Chinese who have superior intellect to you stated they created The Chinese Exclusion Act which is the only ethnic group singled out for immigration legislation. Of course this was b/c us Chinese were stealing away all those wonderful transcontinental railroad jobs that every white American wanted so badly. There weren't even any social services for us to steal at the time.

I'm the product of one of those school systems you mentioned and I'd like to say the reason why those schools are failing isn't b/c of an influx of blacks/hispanics. The white people in my class for the most part were just as inept as students as any of the underperforming minorities despite living in very upper middle class homes and no one needing lunch assistance. As an East Asian minority that played on the football and baseball teams, I got made fun of all the time by the good 'ole boys until I was the only person in my class of nearly 400 to go to an Ivy league despite the school being over 80% white at the time. There were some problems w/ violence and racial issues but a lot of those were students suspended from other school systems. When I go visit my parents, I routinely run into classmates who never left the area working menial fast food jobs that belie their white skin, supposed high intellect, and relatively privileged childhood. Most of my classmates at the time were preoccupied with catching VD and winning ball games vs. paying attention to class and their parents facilitated it by hosting parties or buying junk from the football support club. No one was pushing teachers to actually teach or their own kids to learn. Even though my parents were working 60+hr weeks, they still had enough time to teach me the value of education and how to achieve through it.

My little brother survived the same school #3 in his class despite SAT's were already on that downward trend. His best friends were #1(Chinese) and #2(Indian) w/ nary a white kid in sight. All three were of middle class Asian families, got SAT's over 1500, and went on to the Ivy Leagues. The % of white students was still hovering above 80% (Asians <5%) which means you should have been sending out a few more qualified kids that happened to be white but they just didn't have the incentive when going to UGA(which is not a bad school) was considered some great accomplishment.

The people in these school districts have a simple scapegoat being foreigners rather than holding their own kids, the schools, and teachers responsible to teaching their kids. I have no doubt ESOL can damage SAT scores b/c these people tend not to speak English as well but last time I checked the school's average SAT isn't what your kid will get unless you let them.

Oh as for Asians being smarter...it's likely a myth based on where the testing was done. Did they pull in some illiterate peasant farmers in the Chinese desert? My parents like most of their friends came over as graduate students meaning they were already considered well educated and were selected based on merit. Bring over thousands of East Asians based on their SAT scores and you'll start a trend.

Default 2 Items, One my opinion the other......

Opinion:
Gwinnett is changing and growing. Should surpass 800,000 residents in the near future.
Gwinnett has "actually" seen improvement over the past year.

The main reason you have seen so much media in regard to Drug Busts etc., is due to the task forces that Gwinnett and Barrow counties are working close on. Basically, all I will say is thug and drug hustler beware, the Gwinnett burbs are no longer your quiet obscure safety net. From illegals, to street thugs. Gwinnett law enforcement in cooperation with DEA, State, and Federal groups are working hard to attack. With massive population growth you will have issues, and if anyone feels that Gwinnett is different than anyplace else in America, well, all I will say is leave your armchair and take a trip around the metro area, Charlotte, Cleveland, Detroit, Philly, LA, etc. It's all over and unfortunate. I for one am glad Gwinnett PD as stated above has initiated Clean Sweep.

Next, there is much bashing and arguing going on here. Stick to topic, express your opinions, and move on. Insults, racist comments on all sides, and off topic bashing will be deleted and the thread closed. Now, let's play nice, Thanks.

When I came to Gwinnett ten years ago I really loved it. It was very diverse and very nice. I met good people from all over the country. There was a nice mix of urban and rural. I actually did meet some natives and experienced some southern hospitality. I think the area may have grown too quikly and that combined with a definite shift in the economy has caused many problems especially crime.

The Brookwood area is okay, and it is nice in certain sections. The same can be said for most areas of the county. However, the county is gradually eroding, bit by bit, and the school's deterioration long precedes the eventualy succombing of an area to non-desirable aesthetic qualities.

Grayson is okay, whereas Dacula is above-average.

Gwinnett will be where Dekalb is in 15 years, guaranteed. The trends are so obvious. That you deny such indicates that you haven't lived around Metro Atlanta for very long.

I don't live in Gwinnett, mind you, but Douglas County is seeing the same effect, granted not to the same scale as Gwinnett.

Why bring up Douglas or Paulding Counties, when I never mentioned anything about them? Odd.

I don't? LOL. I have by far more knowledge of trends than you could ever imagine. I'm full aware of demographic trends, courtesy of insane policies and a refusal to guard our southern border. I'm fully aware of the Obama administration's push toward full government control. Are you aware?

And you hate white people, don't you? You seem very getty about whites becoming minorities. That seems quite racist to me.

You're celebrating the displacement of white Americans, I'm sure. You also appear to celebrate a coming third world, balkanized America. Quite odd, considering that most immigrants, with the exception of East Asians and the small European population, are lowering the standards of schools, increasing the net drain on the social system, increasing the crime levels, and creating an overall non-unified land. That's fine and dandy to you, I suppose.

Of course, East Asians tend to have high IQs, as do people of European descent, only slightly lower. What SAT scores are up? If you'd actually look at the statistics, black students are the ones who have brought Georgia down, statistically speaking. The "East Asian" population, statewide, is so small to not make much difference on the overall SAT population, unlike the black population which statistically scores low and accounts for nearly 40% of the state's student population.

I have never argued that East Asians aren't intelligent. Still, they represent a rather small percentage of "immigrants" as a whole, whereas "Hispanic" Mestizo immigrants are by far the largest group.

What makes you think that I have no understanding of the world around me? Oh, I get it, it's because I have traditional views, so you think, in a superior-minded arrogance, that I am not knowledgeable. What preposterous reasoning. I never stated that multiculturalism was only "black and white". Why you'd think that, when I clearly didn't limit any of my comments to such, is odd.

You're too ignorant with your anti-white hatred. It's fairly obvious. You wish for whites to be relegated to a minority in the country their forefathers created.

Do SAT scores mean everything? It doesn't make an area necessarily desireable, when the people who are living around you have nothing in common with you. Most people are tribal, and you appear to not understand this basic fact.
PLEASE LEAVE MY COUNTRY YOU ANTI-AMERICAN IDIOT. And when I say your kind I do not mean whites. I am not anti-white. In fact, FYI -I am half white. Your kind is your mentality, which becoming marginalized and irrelevant on both a national and global scale. And yes, the children of your kind will be slaves in the form of low wages to folks who may not look like them. Why? Becuase you are lost and will teach your inbred children your philosophy, confusing them and totally screwing their heads up when they enter into the real world, rendering them as incompetent as you. I've seen it first hand in corporate America.

Well that was a truly interesting thread. I don't know City Fanatic and we would probably disagree on some of the important issues of the day. Having said that the changes in the country on economic, political, and social levels in my lifetime have been for the most part catastrophically bad. We are well on our way to becoming if not a third world country, something resembling a nation such as Brazil. On a more local level you can see so many of these negative changes in the last twenty years in Gwinnett County Georgia. I'm sorry but a lot of what City Fanatic says has the bitter ring of truth. As for me personally I don't necessarily have to live in a community and a nation where I'm in the majority race. I do definitely need to live in a community and a nation where I share common culture, ideas and language with my fellow citizens, and where excellence is rewarded first and foremost. Not a society that is perpetually guilt ridden and in the process of trying to make things right is destroying itself and calling that "progressive". I wonder if all the newer arrivals in Gwinnett County, whether they be from Mexico, India, China or other corners of the world know that they are in a country that has apparently seen its best days? I wonder if they care? So ponder what I say if you like and label me another racist (such a tiresome overworked word) if you must.

I also have to agree that what City Fanatic said had a lot of truth to it. But, I think that Hispanic people will assimilate into American culture just as earlier waves of immigrants did. At one point, Italians, like me, had lower IQ scores than Anglo-Saxons up until the 1950s. They are European, and they have since assimilated. I think, like someone said, that many Hispanics score lower because of thier status as an immigrant. I also think that they will inter-marry with whites and self-identify as white a few generations down the line.

I also agree that th 1965 act changed America a great deal. Gwinnett County is a testament to that. I think as the years progress you will see movements to repeal it. I think the main reason we have not seen it is because the baby boomers support it, due to the fact that that generation is about 85% white. Once they are no longer in power, things could change.

I also do think that progressives will ruin America, but the pendulum will swing the other way, and a backlash against progressives is unavoidable. I just hope its not too late.

Lastly, it all depends on what you like. If you like to be around foriegners, then Gwinnett is for you. If you dont, then Gwinnett isnt for you.

Also, its so interesting how people lable things that scare them, yet refuse to acknowledge the arguments themselves.

Seen it's best days? Why Because the former majority will no longer hold that status. Kind of arrogant. America's issues have to do with America. A porno-loving, drug-taking, consumer, lascivious, money stealing, self-righteous, narrsasitic addictive culture. My country tis.... And the China's, Russia's. India's of the world know it. That being said, GWINNETT IS GREAT.

Mrdkb, where do you live by chance? I've lived in apts off Satellite near Gwinnett Place for the past year. I can say- it ain't great living here. My wife wouldn't stay her by herself if I was out of town, and I don't blame her.

That said, Im moving out to Dacula (actual city of Dacula, not Hamilton Mill) pretty soon (this weekend actually) and it honestly feels like night and day between the two areas, and we couldn't be happier with our new house. Gwinnett does have a lot of great features (my wife and I both work here), but there are obviously major problems in certain areas and I don't think I'm racist or overreacting to fear that it will spread.

I hope Georgia is right when he says the reason we've seen so much in the news is because they are cracking down in a serious way and the drug tracffickers will find a new home.
