Hello all! I will be relocating from NJ to the Atlanta area and I am trying to narrow down my list of places to live. Next on my list is Snellville! Can anyone give me a rundown on this town. The posts I've read so far were old (2006). Also, if I lived in Snellville, where would be a good place to look for work as a teacher? Thanks!

From what knowledge I have, and from people that I know, the best areas tend to be around Scenic Hwy/Hwy 124. The traffic on that road can get pretty hairy, but it's the major shopping artery for the area. Also, in that location is the Brookwood High School cluster. It's on the best in the county, if not the metro area. Because of that, it tends to raise the property values in the area, making it somewhat more affluent than other parts of Snellville.

ericsonga hit the nail on the head.
Brookwood is a great school. It's a great school to teach at and to learn at. The entire cluster is nice but the Crews Middle School area seems to be slightly better than Five Forks Middle. Crews takes students from Craig and Brookwood Elementary Schools. Here is the cluster information.
And there is plenty of shopping nearby. Numerous resturants, stores, movie theaters, etc.
However there are also a few malls in the county that usually have anything else that Snellville doesn't.
Discover Mills is about 20 minutes away and is right next to I-85. Just a mile west on Sugarloaf Pkwy is the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The ECHL Gwinnett Gladiators play here (they are more successful than the Thrashers, MUCH more successful, they've always made the playoffs) and many concerts are held here. Farther up 85 is the Mall of Georgia. If it's not here, it's probably not in Georgia. It is about 25-30 minutes depending on traffic. The new minor league baseball stadium is right across the freeway and is where the Gwinnett Braves play.

And the downtown area of Atlanta is about 40 minutes away on a good day but traffic can easily cause that time to increase.

And if you want any more information on the climate or something else, just ask me.

I also live in Snellville. The area north of Hwy 78 is closer to shopping, dining, etc. It is more commercial and busier than the area south of Hwy 78. Several neighborhoods in southern Snellville are on larger lots and (to me) are quieter and have more of a residential feel. I am in the Centerville area and we have several developments with lots of 1 acre or more.
One poster mentioned a difference in prosperity. 30078 has a median HH income of 74k, where 30039 median HH income is 72k. Not much of a difference. Both are higher than many other communities in Gwinnett or metro Atlanta... and about 60% higher than the national average. From what I can find, crime is a little higher in 30078. This is probably due to it being busier and more commercial than 30039. Both are good areas.

You are absolutely correct, and I really do like the way some parts of Annistown and Centerville areas look. I think they should let it become a more natural area with larger lots and farms. Beautiful country!

30078 also includes a significant portion of the Brookwood cluster. The income levels and property values increase profoundly around Brookwood Elementary in particular.

Even with higher values around Brookwood Elementary, it looks like one third of the current inventory of houses going to Brookwood Elementary is still listed at under $200k. It looks like the current median asking price would be around $230k.

This pretty much covered the basics. I live in the Centerville area/30039 and it is very quiet and peaceful. After living in cities for the last 15 years, this is heaven.
