Austell is not the best part of Cobb County. Perhaps it is better than Stone Mountain (Dekalb side), but I think that you can do better in Cobb County.

Would you consider living in Smyrna? Are you looking for a house or an apartment?

*Sigh*. I'm talking about the precinct data you initially cited. You now seem to be talking about beat-level data, which I agree is far more meaningful. Before you seemed to be making comments before about Precinct 2 as though it were a monolithic area...?

Either you've shifted your frame of reference or I misunderstood your initial comments. I've always been a believer in checking crime stats at the beat level or equivalent, and if possible also at the neighborhood or street level.

Now there are some who could make the case that population densities and per capita stats are needed, but I still think you can look at Beat 215 for instance and compare that with other beats and understand the difference in areas.
I agree with you, but you weren't taking it to that level of reporting detail before (that I could see).

That said ... there are rough areas in south Cobb, and there are also some very nice and safe areas. All of these areas fall within Precinct 2, so more information is required (IMO) before making judgements about whether or not a given area in south Cobb County is actually safe. Some areas in Precinct 2 are just as safe as anywhere else in Cobb. Some are not.

You misunderstood or maybe I was unclear. The precinct data is a rolled up report of the various beats under it.

I live in South Cobb and the area is pretty quiet and amazingly is still seing home development despite the economic downturn. There are a lot of stores and so in the area. My neighbors kids attend South Cobb highschool, and they seem to like it. Also Austell provides good access to places like Kennesaw,Smyrna,Douglasville,Powder Springs and Dallas. It sort of in the middle of a cross roads. I've been living here about 4 years with no complaints.

Smile Austell is what you make of it.

I have lived in Austell for 25 years and my husband has been here all his life. Austell is exactly what you want to make of it. It is a small community and you have the opportunity to get involved and make sure it stays quaint, small, and thriving. The schools could improve but they have issues with transient families. People move in and out which hurts the schools. If you want your child to get a good education, get involved. I had two in the school and they did not suffer. It makes no difference who or what are in the schools, it is what you and your children make of the school. You don't get involved, then it is your own fault. We had awesome teachers and were involved in anything we could get involved in so our experience was very good. Now, if the parents would parent and stop leaving the schools to be their babysitters, discipline in the schools would be far better. Parents parent and teachers will teach. So simple. The floods have not helped this community but it is up to you to research your home before moving in. Anyone who has lived around this area knows it is prone to flood. For those of us who have lived here, it is okay for those who want to put down our community, it leaves it for us to enjoy.

Would like to know what your expectations are?

I just returned from this area bringing some my stuff to put in my brother's apt off East-West connector in Austell and I love the area. He is close to any and everything I would need without leaving a 5 mile area. He is also down the street from 285. I was recently part of a huge layoff at my job and will be relocating to this area for a couple of mths to see if I can find something out there in the Atlanta area.

Where is he, exactly?

The eastern part of the E/W Connector is southern Smyrna (South Cobb westward), it turns into Mableton as you pass Cooper Lake and enter the Covered Bridge District just after Cooper Lake Road, and it stays Mableton until you get to at least Floyd Road. Not sure where the Austell/Powder Springs boundary would be.

I'm not sure I'd consider any of that stretch South Cobb, although it is in the southern part of Cobb.
