Hi,

I'm switching careers and looking to attend school in GA.

I have Bachelors and I'm currently seeking an Accelerated or a 2 year or less Nursing program in the Atlanta area.

Any suggestions?

I am a nursing student myself and I work for a local hospital I have nurses who have advised me, that any medical field in GA for students will be very hard to pursue. I can tell you there are several schools here for 2 year degrees in nursing any two year college or most tech schools now however, that is it. and the waiting list is either too long because of the available seats or the schools are miles away. GA also is one of the only states I know of that has no private 2 year programs for nursing, so what do you do, take your pre reqs for the program and basically wait your turn for a opening in a 2 year program this will most likely take you 3 to 3.5 years.

Wow. I was unaware of that. Thanks for the heads up. I was looking into Kennesaw state and GA State... and as you state the distance is up to a hour and a half away from Atlanta and I also noticed that they didn't have any accelerated programs for people like myself. Do you know of any hospitals offering Nusing Programs?

Go to one of the 2 year colleges like Georgia Perimeter or Gwinnett Tech and get your pre-reqs out the way. Since you already have a Bachelors (and assuming the classes are from the last 5 years), you may be able to finish that part within a year, maybe 2. You will also have to get through Anatomy/Physiology, and the failure rate is sky high. Be aware that getting into a nursing program is EXTREMELY competitive. There is a waiting list, however, if you are competitive (great GPA, reccomendations, standardized test scores), you are more likely to get in. You may also consider Rad Tech or Respiratory Tech. I know of several people who got through their pre-reqs in about 1-1.5 years, then got into Grady's Rad Tech program.
