Hi, We are thinking about moving to NW GA and Canton will be one place we will visit. I am getting information about schools and I see there are 13 Elementary schools for this town, 8 Middle schools and 5 High Schools. I'm a little confused, because I'm used to one elementary, middle and high school per town. It seems many towns in GA have numerous schools in each town. Am I reading this right? Is Canton that big that they need that many schools? Anyone know of a Catholic School in or near Canton?

Yes, Canton is that big, and the population is growing quickly. There are several more schools slated to be built on top of those already in place.

Like you, we're moving to Canton from NJ, and as you said, many towns only had one school. I grew up in Woodbridge though, which has a few dozen elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 3 high schools, so it's not so unusual to me.

In Georiga, with a few exceptions, we have county-wide school systems, which have school districts (attendance zones) within them. We have a very few city systems... and about 50 years ago, a law was passed which made it impossible to have more city systems.

Places like Cherokee county have experienced rapid growth... in fact if you go to the Cherokee County website, you can read a bit about their plan for growth...
