I am SO glad you chimed in about Snellville (and really Centreville, Annistown, etc.)
These are not bad "areas"...Annistown in particular (Snellville address) is beautiful and a well-kept secret...in the Shiloh cluster schools.
This is how "area panic" is created so easily in Metro Atlanta...
This is also one of the reasons I'm all for incorporation...all it takes is a few people to say "Gwinnett is getting scary...", "Snellville's going down..." --the masses don't realize how big these areas are. People assume a whole area is "bad" or whatever, but if the same area was in another metro area--the Snellville address area for example--the area would be two or three separate towns/cities.
And...the reason for all of the doom and gloom about Snellville is that it has gotten...um...a little "darker" over the years. Many people just don't like living near minorities and think anything with minorities is bad.
Snellville is good/nice.

A helpful map of the Gwinnett County high school districts/clusters:
Gwinnett County Public Schools Cluster Boundaries
For the record, I think the Brookwood and the northern-half of South Gwinnett districts should be the boundaries for the city of Snellville.
The southern-half of South Gwinnett and all of Shiloh would make up the city of Annistown.
The Parkview district would form the city of North Stone Mountain.

I also live in the 30044 side of Lawrenceville, next to Snellville, in the Brookwood school cluster. There are always more desirable and less desirable parts of a city. The area classified as Snellville is vast. I travel often to Snellville to do shopping, so I know the area pretty well. As a whole, I think that Snellville is pretty nice, with some newer neighborhoods that just started a couple years ago in the $600,000 to $900,000s. If a town was 'on the way down' no developer would start these, and they would be empty, when they are far from.

I agree the. I live in Stone Mountain and travel to Snellville a lot for shopping. The area around Webb Ginn road is very nice with wonderful shopping and restaurants. Some one mentioned renaming the Parkview area North Stone Mountain. I don't think that will fly...there is already too much doom and gloom surrounding Stone Mountain. It too has pockets of good and bad areas and some areas need to incorporate into smaller cities. Many of the folks that post here are indeed contributing to the panic for Stone Mountain and Snellville. I live in the 30087 area code of Stone Mountain and did not realize I lived in such a "bad" area until I started reading this site. I quickly started trying to figure out how I could move to the highly touted areas of Brookwood school district , City of Decatur and Dunwoody. Then of course, I came back to my senses. It's really not as bad as people make it out to be. It is indeed getting darker and if you equate that with bad...then there you go. You have your answer.

You guys who don't think Snellville has gone to the toilet need to do your research. Crime in that city has increased by 65% in the last 10 years. Back in the early/mid 90's, nothing ever went on in Snellville. Now it's common place to hear about murders, rapes, child molestations, etc going on there. I have a friend whom is a Gwinnett County sheriff and has shared the ugly truth with me about Snellville and Gwinnett in general. It's gone to the toilet, and slowly being flushed.
FWIW, every single bank from West Park Place in Stone Moutain all the way down past Wachovia in Snellville has been robbed AT LEAST once. You don't hear about it because the Snells want to cover up the exposure of crime as much as possible so it won't detur people from moving there. These are facts ladies & gents. The new Autozone right there at Snellville Oaks theater has been robbed THREE TIMES!!
Lets also not forget that South Gwinnett has over 4-5 security officers now. Back when I was there, there was only 1 when I graduated in 99.

No one is saying there is no crime in Snellville. However, just the city of Snellville has doubled in population since 1990. So, while crime has increased, so has the number of people. It happens when a place booms unfortunately.

Is Brookwood maintaining its quality or going downhill? I know Collins Hill went downhill.

Brookwood is maintaining its quality and Collins Hill is a good school.
What do you think went "downhill" about Collins Hill?
Here we go...more "area panic."
