Bad choice of words (I feel like Obama!!!). Let me rephrase:
I had HEARD that Collins Hill had some drug issues and its standards have declined.

lol...be careful...so many high schools have drug issues. Do you know which high school was proven (with an extensive investigation) to have a huge (if not the worst) drug problem? Walton.

I have a friend whom is a Gwinnett County sheriff and has shared the ugly truth with me about Snellville and Gwinnett in general. It's gone to the toilet, and slowly being flushed.
FWIW, every single bank from West Park Place in Stone Moutain all the way down past Wachovia in Snellville has been robbed AT LEAST once. You don't hear about it because the Snells want to cover up the exposure of crime as much as possible so it won't detur people from moving there. These are facts ladies & gents. The new Autozone right there at Snellville Oaks theater has been robbed THREE TIMES!!
Lets also not forget that South Gwinnett has over 4-5 security officers now. Back when I was there, there was only 1 when I graduated in 99.
|
And what is to stop the criminals from traveling further down 78 or 124 to rob all the banks in Dacula or Grayson or any other Gwinnett City? The criminals have cars and don't necessarily live in Snellville. They also are not assigned to criminal territories. My point is that every Dacula bank could be robbed as well, but I am not going to immediately assume that all of a sudden all of the good people have left the area and the criminals have taken over the city. The population, the traffic, housing, number of retail establishments...everything has increased in that area since the 90s. They must be really covering it up, because I am not hearing about shootouts in Snellville every other day.

Yep, I was going to add Harrison to my post, but the effect would have been lost...
I think Harrison is like the #2 drug school in Metro Area after Walton.

All this talk about crime in Snellville is off-base. If you go to websites such as Gwinnette county detention or scangwinnett and compare the amount of people in the different cities who are arrested, you will see that Snellville is very low when it comes to criminals that live in the area. Norcross and Lawrenceville seem to have the highest. Most of the crimes are being committed by out-of-area-crooks which can happen anywhere. . People are just afraid of the changing demographics.

So you're saying crime hasn't increased with the "changing demographics?"
I don't think people are concerned with the changing demographics of say Suwanee or Buford or other areas that middle and upper clas blacks, Asians, Indians, etc may be moving to.
The problem is illegal immigration in many parts of Gwinnett county. My guess is you don't live in unincorporated areas of Lawrenceville, Duluth, Norcross, etc. If the crime would stay there, that's one thing- but its insincere to say its not spreading and that crime in GC isn't increasing Many areas are going downhill.
I get the feeling that there's not a whole lot of people living in GC on the board, seems to be alotta liberal-thinking folks from ATL or Decatur and thats fine. But the "changing demographics" in GC may have brought diversity; but they also brought crime.

I live in unincorporated Gwinnett and as I've stated before, no one here is contesting the fact that crime has risen. However, I don't think the entire western half of the county is crime infested and ridden with derelict ghettos. I do think with a lot of community support and some forward thinking we can really bring some back some areas that are suffering. To simply turn our backs and run is what exacerbates the problem. Futhermore, Snellville is not a bad area!

Yes, Greater Snellville (Snellville, Annistown, Centreville, Grayson, Five Forks, Mountain Park, Brookwood, Webb Gin Corners, Shiloh Area) is nice.
My favorite part? The Shiloh/Annistown Area...and of course, Norris Lake.
