Hello, I live in Willingboro right now....Hate the school district. Think it's getting a little too ghetto in some parts of the township. Some sections are still pretty cool. My block is really quiet and my son loves his friends that he plays with outside. Willingboro is much better then Brooklyn but now that I am familiar with south Jersey I would have considered other townships. The taxes are way too high and the school system is terrible. My friend lives in Conyers in a mini mansion....so huge with a nice pond in the back. quiet block and many kids to play with but I would not choose this location for my Home because it's too far from the city and that would drive me nuts. I need a little of subs and city, Just like in south Jersey....driving to philly is just 30 minutes and driving to NY 1 hour. So I say that to say if I moved to Atlanta It has to be atleast 30 to 35 min to the city.
FYI I still don't know if I am moving to Atlanta, no has convinced me yet....Still thinking of staying in South Jersey(in another township) Promise I will let you know when my family makes the big move.

Sorry but when you are a girl....these things are important because things can get expensive...especially if your hair gets wet and it really does not look good when you do it your self.
let me explain...in south Jersey a wash and set is 35 bucks on any day of the week. Sometimes more. 35 multiply that by 4.....TOO MUCH. mani and pedi cost about 15 dollars on a weekday on brooklyn, South Jersey 25 regular and 5 dolla extra for design....TOO MUCH. I could get my hair done 4 times in one month if I lived in Brooklyn.... 10 to 15 dollars Mon-Thurs...When you have hair like mine someone else has to do it so it can look nice. This type of service IS very important. I don't have the type of hair that you can wet and go lol Needs special treatment. Atlantic ave venders I do not miss, I was showing an example that even if a New Yorker loses his or her job tomorrow there is always another way to make money because there are so many people in NY.....they are every where...and New Yorkers love a discount LOL

People laugh when New Yorkers mentioned that they have to get there hair done by dominicans.....but they do great hair for people that have.. you Know.....Nappy hair :0) I mean really tight tight curls lol And they are known for their mon-wed only 10-15 bucks. Maribel's on flatbush did mine. She is right on flatbush and Nostrand and started out with a little small one in flatbush. She still has both locations open. One holding like 25 hair dryers. Awesome.

Girl, I can't believe your hair can take all that heat!! The brushes+hooded dryer+dryer PLUS flat iron is entirely too much for me w/ my Dominicans...my hair would melt immediately, lol! It is cheap tho. I don't think that deal can be beat anywhere.
As far as moving to Atlanta, based on what you've said you should def probably stay up North. Job opps are very hard to come by without knowing some people and having a network. That can be said anywhere but probably moreso in the A right now.

I am reading all of you guys' posts (brooklynchick, Pug, Stacey). I think that y'all should look at Huntsville, Alabama because that city is really doing good in this economy, it's very affordable, it has higher paying jobs, and it's very kid friendly. It's not all that country due to the rapid job and population growth. It very modern. It's more suburban than urban, but has nice size metro with everything at your reach. It has new shopping center called Bridgestreet with high-end stores such as BeBe, Juicy Couture, and others. It has a small amusement park with go-karts, golf, and a waterpark. There are several kiddy golf couses throughout the city. If I were y'all, I would think about that if y'all really want to move. Atlanta is a great city without a doubt, but because it's huge and a mecca, it's suffering greatly. So I would do some reseach on cities that are fairing great in the recession. Huntsville just came to mind. Good luck!

Teaching jobs are very scarce right now. The governor just cut the state education budget again and told us there are more cuts to come in January. That will mean more teacher layoffs for sure. We are also getting 3 unpaid furlough days as teachers, with talk of between 3 and 8 more in 2010 as the budget gets worse. It is a terrible time to find a teaching job.
Also, if you are seeking a "great school district" in which to live, keep in mind that the price of homes in that area will be higher. Also because the district is so good, everyone wants to teach there and getting a job will be impossible right now. The places that will have job openings will be where no one wants to teach (rough schools). There is a large over-supply of K-5 teachers right now. You will be competing with hundreds of layed off experienced teachers right now.

I moved to Fayetteville from Rochester, NY. and am an Elder in a growing Evangelical church. Could you teach in a Christian School, like Landmark in Fairburn? In the public school sector, there is considerable demand for teachers in the schools in the county and Fayette county schools are ranked among the top 10 in the US.
There is are two members of our church who is part of growing mental health clinic, so there may be a job opportunity for your husband.
Check out Covenant Presbyterian in Fayetteville, ga
