moving to conyers, georgia area
I live in the Philadelphia, PA. suburbs, and my husband's job is moving to Conyers, Georgia. I was fine with the move until I saw all the horrible information on this site about that area . We were thinking of buying a home in either Conyers or Covington, but now I am scared to live in either one. It sounds like the whole area is filled with crime & sex offenders . Can anyone tell me a good place to live in Georgia that is safe & not too pricey? We will be living on about $2400.00 a month (no kids). I am also vegan, and I am worried that people will not like me at all . I didn't feel this way before, but now I am worried....

Anything that you have read about Conyers or Covington is going to apply for any other community that you may consider moving to, crime is everywhere, sex offenders are everywhere regardless of how much money you have to spend on a place crime is their, look at Buckhead, millionaires live there and people still get mugged, carjacked and murdered there, and if you read some of the old threads refering to the KKK rallies that happened back in the late 80's and early 90's if someone tells you the klan still meets in the public here they are lying, maybe in south georgia or in the mountain towns but not in the metro atlanta, one downside to Rockdale Co.(Conyers) is that the chairman of the board of commissioners Richard Oden "King Oden" is making the county a bad place with all of his radical policy making, he's laying off people just to hire his buddies from DeKalb Co., people are already trying to get him recalled, while Newton Co.(Covington) is o.k., a lot of movies and tv shows get filmed here, they recently started filming the Vampire Diaries which will air on the CW network this fall.

Lived in Conyers for 5 years and left about 4 years ago to move to Lawrenceville/Dacula area in Gwinnett. For us, it was the best move especially with 2 young kids- much more family oriented up here. As a teacher, I can also say the schools that I have been around in Gwinnett (but there are MANY in Gwinnett and my view is limited) are much better- more current on educational practices. I realize you don't have kids but the schools will affect home values. Its definitely going down hill....Covington and Newton county is definitely the better of the 2.

Scared NewTeacher- I have made up my mind!
Hi, I am a newbee to this site, I like most of the advice I read........I am looking to relocate from New York City to GA with my 9 year old ASAP . I will have no family nor friends there.....Can you suggest or recommend a list of teacher recruiting agencies (even if a fee is involved). I am also willing be an assistant teacher-"I have grown very tired of NYC". Thanks.
One more thing there any other website besides (Grace.com). Do you know of any districts that are hiring Teacher Assistant or Subteachers I will take any? my MS is for grade 1-6: Special/General Education.

Hello, my family and I recently moved to Conyers from Virginia. It may be because we're new to the area - but we really like it. The subdivision we live in (Annesbrooke) is really nice and we met numerous neighbors who are also transplants like us. We've inquired about the crime for our area and was told of only one incident. Now I'm not naive enough to think crime doesn't exist, but I think so far Conyers has been a happy medium for us. Conyers or Covington was two of our top choices because the cost of living was less expensive for what we were looking for. Some friends "clown" us for choosing to live in the country (as they call it). But we don't care because it's peaceful to us. It's close enough to the city if we want to go there, yet far enough away that it seems to be a world away. As far as being a vegan and standing out - I think you would do okay - especially with the farmers markets in the surrounding area. We're not vegan, but we do shop at Harry's in Marietta (which is about a 40 minute drive, but worth it) and it probably has most of what you're looking for. If you need any further information, just let me know and I'll try to help as best as I can.

I know this may be a little far but Fairburn and Newnan are wonderful areas!
