I believe there are something like 27 radio stations in Atlanta and we're down to 4 that I have any inkling of desire to listent to and only about 2-3 that I have any real desire to listen to. Also, some of the radio stations listed in previous posts have switched formats or are going to.......Here are the format changes that have been made over the last year or so.......

True Oldies 106.7 switched to an all news station.
92.9 Dave FM is switching to all sports 92.9 The Game some time this month or next
Journey 97.9 is now "the new Q120"
Project 96 is now "Power 96" and plays "Top 40" (though not my top 40)
WGST switched from an all news station to a Spanish sports radio station
98.9 The Bone is a new station, and I'm not even sure what it is replacing, but I believe it's 99X.

I believe those 6 stations were the "only" (ha, ha, ha) ones out of the 27 or so in Atlanta to switch formats in the last year or so, but I'm not even sure. At this point, the only stations that I have any desire to listen to in the ATL are 97.1 The River, Rock 100, and B98.5. It's sad as two of the stations listed in the casualty list above were among my favorites.
95.5 the beat is now hannity and roush the sky is falling america is burning down soapbox 24/7. howard kent? clark? dean? something is the only digestable person on there. he is somewhat like the male version of orman imo

and that about sums it up. hot 107.9 is now the best station, even if you dont like rap. at least you know what it will play!

WUTC in Chattanooga is good and I'd be willing to say that station alone makes Chattanooga a better radio city than Atlanta. WDVX in Knoxville is probably one of the best small market niche stations I've heard.

Decent radio either exists in either the very biggest markets or in some of the smallest. Both can get away with not following the typical formats.

I guess Atlanta unfortunately lies within the middle of nowhere in the terrestrial radio market.

88.5 is supposedly one of the top college stations in the nations. It's actually the best station I've ever listened too based on the underground and non traditionally radio music they spin.

There's a million stations in Atlanta, but most of them just aren't worth listening to.

When did 640 am turn into Spanish-language sports?

Wow, talk about some big changes around here on radio lately?? - I like news radio stations from time to tim, and for some reason, I thought WGST would stay as a news radio station. It seems like a lot of format changes lately in the Atlanta market within a small period of time, 2012. I tend to notice the changes more on the fm dial than I do am.

I like WMLB 1690, "The Voice of the Arts", in Avondale Estates. Very cool programing that actually isn't somebody gnawing on you about how horrible Obama and the Democrats are.

Last I checked the FM translator on 92.3 for WGST is now a 24/7 comedy network.
How ironic, because Atlanta corporate radio is a JOKE.

If you want to hear quality FM radio, WRAS 88.5 is a great alternative station (Georgia State University)
WCLK 91.9, Clark Atlanta University, a class act jazz station. (they just moved their transmitter to Richland tower in DeKalb county and get out much further outside 285)
WABE FM 90, traditional NPR. If you are one of the few with HD Radio, they have neat stuff on their HD2.

1690 is a great station, it's too bad it's on AM extended band and has Atlanta has poor ground conductivity for AM in general, so it's hit and miss. Wish they had an FM translator.

Other than that, hook up your Iphone and use Tune-In radio to get real radio from the Internet.
