Atlanta Neighborhoods
I am a single female that is weighing options of relocating from San Francisco to Atlanta. Atlanta is great but it is important for me to be close to public transportation. I don't know if there is such a place similar to the "Mission" in San Francisco. That is a neighborhood that consists mainly of young, artistic and families. I would loveto be able to catch the trains to work, walk to the grocery store and maybe walk to the local cafes or bars. I am willing to take a condo or townhouse eventhough, for a city dweller a backyard is a treat! I know I have to be concerned with crime where ever I go. Can anyone help? I am not a suburban type. I prefer urban, lofty, center living. Thanks

This thread is not about where you guys would live its about what he is looking for your experience in an area may not be the same. My suggestion is go out in bOth areas dont base your judgement of someone else experience because your experience may not be the same as theres. I dont get into reviews and all that because its just personal opinions that dont justify anything. Crimes happen anywhere if you look on the news most crimes are happening in SUburbs home in vasion etc. I hardly feel threatened by anything when walking downtown. its too much going on down there especially during the day.

I love midtown, I lived there for two years, but I wouldn't suggest walking alone (especially a female) after dark. That shouldn't necessarily deter you from living there, but just be cautious, as you would anywhere.

I am 33 years old and I have 6 kids(3 grown). I would recomend Downtown Atlanta. One paticular place is Centenial Place Apartments. They are down the street from Centennial Place Elementary school, Buckhead and has the cleanest and coolest community you will ever lay your eyes on. The office peopole and maintenance are helpful in many problems or questions you may have. You can walk in the quietest community and walk your dog, or even enjoy the scenery or Atlanta. For people who have kids, the schools have excellent academics. Centennial Place Elementary, S. M. Inman Middle, North Atlanta and Henry W. Grady High School. They have lots of clubs and activities for your children and Georgia Tech College Campus is right down the street. There is nothing wrong with Downtown Atlanta. Give it a try!

I agree that Midtown is relatively safe. If you feel there are people around you don't want you can even call midtown blue and they will send someone out, I believe they are off duty police. Its a safe active community and people are always out walking etc.

Maybe not to the public but if you put an offer in during your inspection period you have the right to get copies of minutes, financials etc.

Downtown is the place. It is close to everything and the skyline on the back of my huse is beautiful. My family lives in Columbus Georgia but my mom, sister and I have been here since 1995!
Try rentals from Centennial Place Apartments. 30313 NW Atlanta Georgia

From my experience of years ago, the Mission district was fairly scary. Of course, things have probably changed a lot... Anyway, downtown Atlanta is a pretty good option if you like central location, convenience to the highways, etc. I don't know if you would like walking around much specially at night though... Atlanta is not like other cities and tends to be pretty empty of people and it can be a little scary. The crime has unfortunately increased with the bad economy too. the good news is that there is a resurgence taking place and more cafes, restaurants and night clubs are opening in the Marietta St corridor as well as many new condos and apartment buildings. The plus side is that the prices of real state are very low right now specially downtown. You can get a real bargain if you look around.
I don't think Buckhead is the place for you. It's just not the kind of scene you seem to like. You might try the Little 5 Points area or Virginia-Highlands for a pedestrian friendly atmosphere. L5P is definitely the more artsy, off-beat of the areas and safer than much of the old Fourth Ward.
I'd say take a look at all the areas and make up your own mind. Atlanta is not too dangerous a place if you don't fit the demographic profile of the victims. Although there is no 100% warranty, you are relatively safe if you exercise common sense and avoid dangerous behavior.
I've owned a loft in the downtown area for almost 10 years and the only crimes I've suffered were a couple of break ins in my car.
