I'm curious, did you send your child to Woodward North? And if so please share -- what do you think of the school so far?

We are still in the admissions process. As stated, we hope to send our oldest to their Kindergarten program this fall (2010) so it will be our first year there.

We have toured Woodward North twice and really think highly of it. It seems like a great school.

Acceptance letters will not be mailed out until early April. We'll see.

I attended Woodward Academy my whole life and loved it. I started at the primary school down the street, and moved on to the lower school, middle school, and high school. This was very convenient because you have access to all of the facilities located at the high school. I would suggest sending your child to the main campus if you can so they will have access to all of the intramural activities available for second graders and up. While I was at the primary school I started intramural wrestling and followed it all the way through my Woodward career. Placing your child at main campus also allows them to acclimate easliy to Woodward and when they move up they will be accustomed to the campus already. Woodward is a wonderful institution if you want your child to appreciate music, art, sports, and education. Woodward stresses athletics and the arts and all children are required to participate in band, chorus, and art classes from kindergarten until middle school. Middle and High shool students have the option to participate in these activities although art classes are pretty much manditory, as well as music appreciation. Woodward has a 100% college acceptance rate. Princeton, Carnegie Mellon, Duke, and Mercer are just some of the schools that friends of mine were accepted to. Auburn University accepted me without a hitch. Good luck and I hope this will encourage you to send your child to Woodward, and hopefully main campus, they will enjoy it and hopefully become vintage eagles one day. In response to your question on secondar fees there are fees associated with field trips, uniforms, and books. As a student we went on many field trips which include Rock Eagle, Ft. Sumter in Charleston Harbor, Williamsburg Va., St. Simons and Jekyll Islands, and many more. These trips were not manditory and we were not required to go, although they are fun. The Rock Eagle trip I believe may have been mandatory, that is the only one as far as I remember, although it has been a few years since my tenure so they may not make that trip anymore. Good luck and War Eagle.

Both of our children (now adults) are grads of WA. Our son attended public school (Fulton) in K and 1st, where he showed curiosity but responded to the average expectations with average effort. His standardized testing in 1st grade rated him slightly above average. Wanting more individual attention to his education in a nonsectarian atmosphere, we chose Woodward North, where they taught to the top of the class. Our son thrived. In 6th grade, he had a gold-standard teacher who skillfully challenged our son in an affable manner that made him believe in himself and motivated him to meet her expectations. From that year on, he saw himself as an achiever. He now has 3 degrees from MIT and no trouble finding a job. WA also nurtured our daughter's talents: academic and athletic. Occasionally each of them had an uninspiring teacher, but overall, the faculty is exceptional. Our daughter graduated with a BA from Northwestern U and is in grad school there. I highly recommend WA for nurturing potential, having the courage to discipline misbehavior, and deftly managing the faculty/parent partnership.
