There's a big difference between "wants"and "will", though. Macon leaders and residents will throw a cow over it. It's one thing to create a new attraction altogether downtown, but to relocate one existing attraction from one city to another opens up cans of worms, red tape, and the old "we hate Atlanta" stuff from them. It'll be interesting to see what happens, but I doubt we'll see the museum at Centennial Park anytime soon.

That won't be much of an issue if the Macon museum goes out of business. Then they won't have much of an argument.
I'd go if this were in Atlanta, but I doubt I'll ever go to one in Macon.

Sure you will....it'll be right next to the $120 million civil rights museum that no one has figured out how to fund yet.......

I dont see what the problem is with only 27k people visiting it per year in Macon. They would have 27k every couple of weeks if it was in Atlanta

Well I'm torn.I grew up in Warner Robins just 20 minutes South of Macon until my parents moved to the Atlanta suburbs when I was in high school.Macon has the greatest "musical history" in Georgia, actually the best in the state.Little Richard,The Allman Brothers,Otis Redding,Lena Horne(partially raised with relatives while she was young),Mike Mills and Bill Berry of R.E.M.(met at high school),Randy Crawford and Young Jeezy(yeh i know). All except the latter were ground breaking artist. It was home to Capricorn Records. They are the company that really got Southern Rock on the map.
The museum is also representative of the region for Georgia other artist like Ray Charles and James Brown. Both artist spent time in Macon's music scene.
So the lineage is important to be maintained. Its like moving the "Hall of Fame of Football" out of Cooperstown.
I do understand that if no one comes to see it and it closes it would be best to be in Atlanta. It would definitely be an attraction for the city.It is also over due.Atlanta is a musical city.Incorporating the Macon exhibit would really put more focus on the whole state. It is a logical decision. However the emotional aspect of this would make it impossible.

I think part of it could go in the old World of Coke...in addition to some other museum in that building.

Not to be picky...but isn't the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown? I could be just missing a touch of facetiousness...
