ATL Suburbs Similar to Suwanee or Peachtree City
I want to live in a nice little, safe, family-oriented suburb with nice houses something like Suwanee or Peachtree City. However, I am looking for a 45min to 1hr commute to downtown/midtown Atlanta.
Having these things in mind, what areas would you suggest?
I do not plan on renting for a year before I buy, like many of you will suggest. I will, however, visit a few times to get a feel for the places you name. Please help me out!

Why not Suwanee or Peachtree City? Both are in the 45 minute-1 hour commute range.

Exactly. If you'll be working Downtown, Peachtree City would be a good choice.

I have heard conflicting information. Most people say that it would take well over an hour to get downtown.

Not from Peachtree City.
The South Metro area is a great place to live if one will be working downtown.
If I were you, I'd focus on Fayette County (Peachtree City, Tyrone, other areas, etc.) and Coweta County (Newnan, other areas, etc.),
You should consider Henry County as well.

Are there any communities north of Atlanta that are similar to Peachtree City?

You mean with 90 miles of trails and lots of golf carts? Peachtree City is pretty unique in that regard. If you're just looking for something with a hometown feel and a nice downtown area then places like Duluth or Woodstock would be worth looking at. Norcross seems to have a nice downtown area, but I don't know that much about it.

Nothing is going to be on the scale of Peachtree City...but similar large master-planned communities on the northside of Metro Atlanta:
Windward in Alpharetta/North Fulton
Towne Lake in Woodstock/South Cherokee
Legacy Park in Kennesaw/North Cobb
Hamilton Mill in Northeast Gwinnett
Bridgemill in South Cherokee
I hope this helps. Good Luck!

IMO Suwanne would be a worse drive that Peachtree City. PTC is unique and really is one of the few choices (my opinion) of the southern burbs.

Yes. Like I said before, if you'll be working Downtown, definitely look at suburbs south of the city.
