Any recommendations? Thanks.

Live intown Atlanta, pieBear, then you'll have a reverse commute to Norcross in the morning. I think intown is a comfortable place for you lifestyle. Midtown Atlanta is virtually owned by the gay community. Lesbians seem to have a heavy population in an area called Virgina Highlands, and also Decatur. You may also look at Grant Park, Buckhead, Little Five Points, Inman Park and Atlantic Station, (brand new development) Morningside, or Brookhaven. I don't know how much you want to spend, but intown living isn't exactly cheap. There are deals to be had though.

Check out the Post apartments on the corner of 10th street and Piedmont. Also, if you have time to come in and walk around, meander through the streets of midtown as many of the quaint homes have apartments for rent and aren't listed online, only on signs outside. Inman Park is also a great place but midtown is probably the most convenient for your commute. Virginia Highland and Morningside are good places to check out too, also with rentals by owner. Welcome!

I'd recommend living in Midtown and commuting to Norcross. Norcross has really gone downhill in the last 10 years. Lots of drugs and crime.
Commuting in that direction won't be so bad.
I live in Post Parkside now near Piedmont and 10th. I love this place. It's right across the street from Blake's and Outwrite. Lots to do within walking distance.

sweettea1, Jim30309: Good day. Interesting that you both recommended Midtown/Post. I definately will check out the area. My partner and I will find couple of days to fly down there and check out all the apartments that we have on our list. Once again, thanks for the input.
Thank you guys for all the info and being so warm. Keep posting...

Ok, but you need to be cautious about SOME Post Apartments properties...
Post has a big monopoly in the "luxury" apartment complex market in Atlanta. They are well known for extensive landscaping and ammenities, and SOME of their communities are very nice. What some are also known for however, are poorly built units (as in not a ton of sound proofing, tiny tiny bedrooms, etc), and in some cases, a rather lofty "L.A. attitude" among the office agents. They have strict income and credit score requirements in order to be able to get a unit.
When I was an apartment dweller, I toured a few Post properties and wasn't impressed enough to pay the premium price for one. I've known a number of people who have lived in them though, and some liked them and others thought they were way overpriced for what you got. I currently know someone who lives in one of their more expensive places on Peachtree, and they've raised this person's rent an average of $120 a month per year, every year, even though they have a good relationship with the staff. Not my idea of appreciating good tennants.
A decent resource if you know the name of a complex is www.apartmentratings.com to read up on comments from people who actually live in particular communities. Keep in mind that people tend to write more if they're mad than when they're happy, and in some cases employees will write glowing reviews of places they work at. But it's a good source to see if residents of a place are writing the SAME complaints, which will give you an idea if there are particular problems with a community. Or, look for the places that have high ratings and aim for them, etc.

Having lived in Midtown for over a year, I will say that I believe it to be (along with Decatur and Virginia Highland) the most gay friendly of any neighborhood in Atlanta. It's definitely worth walking around to see individual homes with apartments for rent. And in my opinion, midtown is much more convenient to all parts of Atlanta than Decatur, even though Decatur has a lot to offer. Come for the weekend and check out both!

Hey peibear, I don't know if you looked up these sites but they are helpful for my partner and I.
HRC | Home
gaydemographics.org...Just the facts
The last one, click onto the state in the community profiles and scan down until you see gay index. 100 is the US average...whatever that is.
We're still looking though. You'll be suprised who's gay friendly!
Good luck my GLBT friends!

From what I have seen around town. Midtown or Inman Park would be great areas. You would really like Lil Five Points. Have a lot of cool places there.
