Nicest neighborhoods and best schools near airport?
I was wondering what would be the best areas near the airport that offer nice neighborhoods and quality schools?

Why do you want to live near the airport? All that jet fuel and pollution in the air, all the noise.

The center of Peachtree City is 24 miles from the airport according to Google Maps, so it really isn't that close. Heck, Mableton is only 21 miles away.

My guess would be a person would want to live near the airport either for employment or traveling reasons. I grew up five minutes from LAX and depending on which direction you go there is a neighborhood where you don't hear the noise even though you can clearly see the planes. Pollution has greatly improved, but that's due to all the cars on the road, or at least that is what officials say and the media presents.
I've had locals tell me that there are some neighborhoods that used to be kinda rough that they are trying to gentrify that are close to the airport, but I've only been visiting in GA twice.
I hope someone more local will share more info.
I found a link to check Atlanta crime data here: Atlanta Police Department | Crime Mapping

Yes, it is for employment travel reasons. I don't need to live 1 mile from it, but would like an area that wouldn't be a 2 hour commute. Is Villa Rica a nice area?

Based on your criteria (relative "nearness" to the airport, good schools), I highly recommend these areas:
1. Peachtree City (Fayette County)
2. Most of the rest of Fayette County
3. Coweta County (includes Newnan, Sharpsburg, Senoia, etc.)
4. Villa Rica/Mirror Lake (Douglas County/Eastern Carroll County)
5. Southern Douglas County (Alexander High Area, Winston, Chapel Hill Area)
6. Southern and Eastern Henry County (Locust Grove, Ola, Hampton, Union Grove Area...Eagle's Landing is also nice--it is in Central Henry County)
*all of the aforementioned areas are also very popular for families with the exact same criteria as you.
I hope this helps. Good Luck!
Note: the South Metro Area of Atlanta is the best location for good schools and proximity to the airport. You will have many great options.

I'd be willing to bet that commute times from Peachtree City and Mableton or Vinings would be comparable most of the day.
There are people in this forum who make the commute to the airport from that area every day.
There's no reason ... based on commute times ... to limit yourself to the SW quadrant of the metro, IMO. The terrible traffic is mainly along the northern 285 arc and along the NW and NE spokes (75, 575, 85), not the western 285 corridor.

You're right, rc.
I'd like to add these areas to the list for the OP (based on his/her criteria):
1. Smyrna/Mableton/Vinings (South Cobb County)
2. Several Intown Neighborhoods east and southeast of downtown.

I come up i-85 everyday between 7-8am. It takes about 20 minutes from the Peachtree City/Tyrone exit to get to the airport.
