Work at CDC - What neighborhood should we move to?
We will be relocating to Atlanta so my husband can take a job at the CDC. We have to kids in elementary school. We would like something family oriented with excellent school and in the $350K to $500K price range - what neighborhood should look towards?
Thanks!

We've heard lots of great things about Decatur and it's on our own short list. There are a couple of schools threads on this forum, and I've found some great school information on greatschools.net. From listings I've seen, you should be able to find something in the higher end of your price range.

Do they have good public school? I'd be open to private or catholic schools too - as long as they aren't too expensive.

The zip code is 30030. If you go to greatschools.net you can type in the zip and get data and ratings on the schools in that community, as well as parent reviews. It's very cool! You can also go to realtor.com and type in the zip code and your home criteria to see what kinds of homes are available. I also found intownhomes247.com to be a really helpful site with fantastic descriptions of the neighborhoods of Atlanta. (Though I just checked and the Decatur page is under construction right now.)

The City of Decatur schools are very good (very innovative -- it's a charter system). The entire City of Decatur (30030) is also very convenient to the CDC campus (assuming the job is at the main campus). There are also some wonderful neighborhoods in the area that are in unincorporated DeKalb county in good schools. The Oak Grove area (including the Oak Grove neighborhood as well as Leafmore) attends Oak Grove Elementary (which is one of the highest ranked elementary schools in the state). Fernbank Elementary is also good (it's very near the Emory campus). Druid Hills (which is super expensive for the most part but does have some areas within your budget) is the best known neighborhood in that area (it's the "Driving Miss Daisy" neighborhood). The Clairmont Heights area would fit well within your budget and is super convenient to Emory/CDC.
I'm a native of this part of town. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.
