I’d like to see an investigation into this matter verifying the memo’s authenticity and the identification of the author. I have a hunch that this is fake given some of the language in the memo–including the phrase “Black Agenda”. I’ve met Dr Turpeau and I’ve been present at many civic functions where he has spoken and none of this sounds like anything that he would purport. However if he did write or support the content in the memo, then it would be a huge disgrace and a blemish to our city.
Whether this memo is true or fake and given the fact that our country has elected the first black president recently, who really gives a damn if the mayor is black or not.

I feel you, I saw Dr. Turpeau speak at an event at Morehouse a few years back and the impression I got of him was that he was a real free spirit, to the point even that he wouldn't be concerned with politics that much to take the time to write that. It's not like I know him but he didnt come off that way to me, and usually Im good at spotting those Cascade old guard types that really do think that way. But hey you never know. As far as the mayoral race, Im like you, I could care less the race of the mayor just as long as they do a good job

But why are you so worried about it? You live in Locust Grove, the mayoral race in Atlanta should be of no concern to you.

I'm with you on that one. I hate the way WSB reports these things sometimes. What I want to know is, how did WSB get their hands on the memo? What website(s) was it circulating thru? What person of stature actually authored this memo?
At best this is half-a**, tabloid-style yellow journalism. At worst this may very well be a typical divide-and-conquer/slash & burn racial politics, southern-style. WSB, AJC, and Cox Enterprises should be ashamed of themselves for trotting out this piece of divisive trash without any sort of reasonable verification or research.
Is making money ALL that matters in this country? Henry Grady must twisting over in his grave... looking at how his former employer is doing so much to harm race relations in Atlanta with unverified rumors... all to make a couple of bucks.

Borders may very well have this election in the bag... But I garantee you that Atlanta as a political and economic force will be nullified in many years to come. That memo, whether it's fact or fiction is right about one thing: those NPU's have done a VERY good job of siphoning money away from Atlanta, along with the founding of Sandy Springs, City of Milton and other numerous anti-Atlanta revenue reducing mechanisms enacted by a Conservative dominated State government.
The inevitable conclusion is merely being stalled temporarily, that's all. We black folks as a group still don't have a good handle on being able to seamlessly merge politics & economics into a powerful, cohesive, and highly accountable engine designed to serve our needs. Only time will tell, I guess...

Does where someone lives make them inelligible to express an opinion. Did you ever think that I may have some kind of vested interest in Atlanta, business, financial or otherwise. You do realize that Atlanta is the State Capitol so all of us have an interest. I never mentioned any worry on my part, why are you even worried about what YOU think I may be worried about.

What do you expect, the AJC has been doing this type of stuff for years. It never ceases to amaze me why no one has called them out on that type of stuff, I mean we are talking about the same paper that one half of the original paper (Atlanta Journal) used to be owned by Hoke Smith, the former governor who almost single handidly incited the 1906 race riot in which they say 26 Blacks were killed, but some think it was as many as 64. The other half of the paper (Atlanta Constitution) was co-owned by the father of Hoke Smith's opponent in that race, Clark Howell. After Hoke Smith ran a series of salacious stories in his own paper about roving gangs of black men raping white women in Atlanta, Evan Howell, father of Clark Howell decided to one up his competition and help his son out at the same time by encouraging white men to meet up to "defend their womens honor" in his paper, which inevitably turned into the drunken mob that started the riot. All this from the papers that would form the AJC just 44 years later, and all this just to help them win the gubernatorial race
