Actually, if money were no object whatsoever, I would have multiple places.

Mountain place on Lake Burton.

"Country place" (LOL) in old Brookhaven near the golf course.

Highrise penthouse in Midtown.

It IS nice to dream, right?

I live in Buckhead. Used to live in Virginia-Highland. I love living in Buckhead and I loved living in Virginia-Highland. The best areas are these two, along with Emory/Druid Hills, Toco Hills, Inman Park, Morningside, Lenox Park, Ansley. I can't speak for the 'burbs though people swear by Alpharetta (barring the traffic) and Vinings. I lived in the Stone Mountain and Avondale Estates areas for many years. Had to move because of the crime.

Also Decatur in the 30030 zip code. Oakhurst is also nice.

I moved from Chicago to Atlanta a couple of years ago, and I chose to live in Old Fourth Ward. I still do! This neighborhood most reminded me of living in Chicago. It has some walkability to it. I can walk out my front door visit a park, have breakfast, a coffee, run on a trail all the while having some skyline views. I have to travel to midtown/buckhead to work, but on the weekend I prefer to stay on the east side of the city. Buckhead I loathe. What don't I like about O4Ward? The crime is a bit unacceptable -- sadly. However, the community is pretty strong and has made efforts to increase police presence along with just not tolerating the it.

Decatur, Candler Park, and Kirkwood. The accessibility and walkability is hard to beat.
