Any in-town neighborhoods near a lake or stream?
Have to move to ATL soon. Are there any neighborhoods with a reasonable (20-30 min) commute to mid-town that have rental homes, condos, townhomes, etc, with a view of a stream, river, lake, etc? I saw Pine Lake on a map, so it got me to thinking..... thx

There is Fern Creek--runs from Briarcliff Rd over into Sagamore Hills and Mason Mill area--DeKalb county--about 5 miles from Emory University.
There is Echo Lake--man made--further out Briarcliff--towards North Lake Mall and I know there are lots more.
Tucker would have some--and surely there are lakes/creeks around Dunwoody.
Fernbank Forest is located in DeKalb County--from Ponce de Leon--north and east. Magnificent pristine forest--Fernbank Science Center is there--and Fernbank Museum of Natural History---I guess that is 'Midtown'--maybe 'Intown'--LOL--can't keep up with all the labels.
Further out--Sandy Springs--Roswell Rd--you will find the Chattahoochee River--lots of water around there....
Peachtree Corners/Norcross--also on the river--then all the way North--there is water...
Lake Lanier---Gwinnett/Forsyth/Hall counties--cities of Cumming, Suwanee, Lawrenceville, Duluth---
You would have a longer commute --but plenty of water.

Do any of these have townhouses or condos though. I think most of the residences on these bodies of water are going to be expensive single family homes that are most likely not rentals. You might luck out and find something though.

in north sandy springs there are 2 apt complexes overlooking the river. I lived in one and it had a great view of the river in the winter when the leaves fell off...other units had a year round view. It is at roswell road and the chattahoochee river bridge but the technical street name is South Atlanta Street and it is just within roswell city limits. It is close to I-400 but i doubt the commute would be less than 30 minutes during rush hour.
Just around the corner is another complex which has beautiful apts on the banks of the river...about 15-20 feet from the water. It has floor to ceiling windows with an awesome view. It is just across the bridge from the other place right before the steak and ale. I think it is on roberts drive.
There is another large apt complex on the river at powers ferry and 285. It used to be called riverbend apts but has a new name. They have some units on the banks of the river, however, there is/was a faint smell of sewage in the air due to waste water being dumped in the river...maybe they have fixed this...it would be worth a visit.

Riverbend or whatever it is now is right on the river, IIRC.
I lived at the former Treetop apts--next door--drove through that complex not long ago and wondered how I ever navigated the steep hills--
Follow 'The Hooch'--Chattahoochee River--as long as I can see some water every once and a while --I'm OK---and thankfully there are good parks all along the river.

I had a roommate who moved to Atlanta from around Winter Park, FL--they had a lot of lakes there. She was really disappointed when all Atlanta had was the lake at Piedmont Park. LOL--Originally from Minnesota--I guess they are used to more lakes, etc.

I have a home on Norris Lake in Snellville and see a couple of for rent signs up. That lake is great because you can have powerboats on it and it's about 30 mins to Atlanta.

I don't know of any townhomes or condos in Tucker that have lake or stream views. There are several ponds and lakes in Tucker, but they're all either in neighborhoods with single family homes, or are part of a park (Henderson Park, Cofer Park). It's possible you could find a rental house with a lake in the backyard, but it'd be a longshot.
I think concentrating on any area the Chatahoochie River passes through is good advice.

Walton on the Chattahoochee
Walton on the Chattahoochee is the name of what used to be called Riverbend Apartments. The name/ownership changed in February of '07, and many repairs and changes have already taken place. The website is Removed. They have 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments as well as 2 and 3 bedroom townhomes. Some buildings have river views and they offer great amenities with great prices!
