I would prefer nice plantings along those walls where possible. Nature does such a better job at beautifying.

What Living Walls does is not graffiti, although some of the artists they are associated with probably got their start as graffiti taggers.

Unfortunately, plantings quickly turn into unsightly messes unless someone cares for them regularly, and that generally doesn't happen.

Is Living Walls actually considered graffiti, though? I thought they were considered murals, which in my mind, are much less controversially called "art" and not graffiti (although as we all know, some of the art can be controversial, regardless of if you would consider it art or graffiti). Personally, I love those murals, and would prefer to see those over "plantings and trees" as Ansley states. But, in my mind, art is different than graffiti. To each his own, I guess.

Graffiti:

Art (Living Walls):

Probably a mix of the two to some people(Graffiti-art?), but what I still think is better than what I posted as graffiti since it is appealing and orderly:

I do like the upside down gator on Mitchell St. But generally, I think they are more visual clutter than good art. They are just so dominatingly big! Sorry. I know I'm a party pooper about some things...

Everybody has their own opinion! That's what makes these forums interesting

You're right! Only when folks get insulting with each other over differences of opinion are the forums no longer interesting or fun.

I like graffiti in places where it is appropriate. I don't care for graffiti or stupid "tagging" that defaces public signs and private property where no permission for graffiti has been obtained

Many of you are referring to tagging. Many of the artist that participate got started by doing graffiti, but if they did not have permission, then it would be considered graffiti.

It has its place. I like it. I always thought it was funny that people hate it so much, but in my mind those are probably the same people who invented the HOA so they could enforce the color of window shades. They want everything to be just the way they like it.

It's even funnier when it gets painted over so poorly that the fix looks worse than the graffiti itself, like the wall on 17th and Northside. Nothing says "someone was here and The Man didn't like it" like a bunch of gray splotches on a white wall (and being across the street from an overgrown vacant lot gives it a nice little dash of irony). That's a prime place to get some decent graffiti going... someone should do something big there. I guess it's a little too visible to get away with though.
