Is Acworth a nice place to live?
I am looking at moving to Georgia, but I am not sure where. Acworth looks like a good deal for the money, but I wonder why the houses are so cheap. I have two children, so the schools are really important. I teach special education, so I think I can find a job in most parts of the state. Please let me know if I am looking in the right place.

I am not familiar with AcWorth.
Check out yourself

Check exceeding CRCT scores (which you need to calculate yourself), not just meet and exceed score (which the web site gives to you).

The 4 county thing is a bit hard to figure when your dealing with schools. Is it possible that my two son's could be going to school in two different counties?
I would love to know about the downtown. Also, is there any night life?

I'm a true native. Born and raised in Acworth, 28 years.
As a kid it was tiny, many horse farms. Now there's a handful left. Sad for me.
Kids can't go to schools in different counties.
Cobb makes up the majority of Acworth, Bartow and Cherokee are very small areas of Acworth. The newest area is the Paulding part, which has blown up.
There's certain areas of Acworth(School Districts) I would avoid. i.e. I live off of Baker Road, on the West(South) side of 75. I hear sirens every night and am ready to get out of this area. My neighborhood is nice but surrounding areas seem to have quite a bit of crime. Nothing major, but it's annoying.
The 'West' side of 41 is the newest and nicest, better schools. On this side you have Cobb and Paulding. North-East side of 41 and mostly west of 75 is Bartow, Cherokee is mostly East of 75.
Cobb, clearly has the better schools, better roads, etc but more taxes. Cherokee and Bartow are more of a rural feel.
The downtown area: My Dad own's a building on Main Street for the last 30 years. The entire area downtown has changed drastically in the last 10 years. Use to be old, empty buildings. Now there's more antique type shops and a few restaurants. Alot nicer, but it's only like 3 blocks long and 1 block wide.
As a teacher you'll be ok, but traffic to 75 from West of 41 in the morning and afternoon is a nightmare b/c the lakes limit the acess roads. They're supposed to put in a new exit up by 3rd Army road which would greatly alleviate traffic but right now, it's terrible.

Most "cities" in Georgia might reside either in the city limits "incorporated" or outside of the "unincorporated" which determines tax rate, police/fire, schools and utilities. Acworth is unique in the fact that it covers several counties in Georgia, so having an Acworth address might translate to either living within the Acworth city limit or in In Cobb County ,or In Paulding, or in Cherokee county.
Acworth (city) is about a 35 minute commute from Downtown Atlanta outside of rush hour. In Rush hour, expect over 1 hour on average in extremely heavy traffic. One option is to opt for the Express commuter bus to Downtown. Schools overall are not bad. The high school for the Cobb County part of Acworth is North Cobb High School.
There is a significant amount of growth, both from a residential and commercial perspective.

Acworth is pretty rural for a metro Atlanta suburb. Parts of Acworth are downright rednecky. A lot of new development though, some parts are nice. The schools in Acworth are below-average to average.
Traffic down I-75 during rush hour is ridiculously bad. I-75 is practically a parking lot in the mornings until you get to 285 where it clears up, but then your still 10 miles from downtown. Acworth is kind of far, so you should avoid it if you have to commute to the city.
As for nightlife in downtown Acworth.... downtown Acworth is a tiny cluster and no, there's absolutely no nightlife. You'll need to get closer to the city for that.
The lakes and forests around Acworth are nice. There are lots of parks in the area.
