Don't be overly concerned about crime. You will be in North Fulton, and Fulton County statistics don't apply. Centennial HS is a well-regarded school. We have special ed experience, but we moved here with an IEP in place for my son, and it was accepted without any problems. He was able to enroll in a college prep track, and passed all the required exams with time modifications. Now, he's away at school studying mechanical engineering.
You can check the Centennial course listings online. We were disappointed in the lack of tech type classes available in the GA high schools. Lots of computer technology, but very little hands-on shop classes.

From what I understand the place has been remodeled. After living in California I think that actually having a maintenance team is a luxury for me. I'm used to fixing things myself and just leaving it off the rent and including a receipt..or in the case of my apt in LA a few years ago..I just take them to court for rent reduction due to decreased amenities if they dont fix something that I cant. I dont mind the DIY approach as I dont think I'd be comfortable with someone in my apt 'fixing things' when I'm not home unless they have a Saturday crew to come while I'm home.
I've been told that each unit has an alarm so I plan to get that monitored , but now it seems like breakins might be likely ....holy cow..I guess I'll either buy a dog or a weapon or something unless I can find another complex in a better area thats within my budget. I'm trying to keep the expenses low until I get re-established and I got a good deal at that place if I decide to take it.

You won't find a safer area unless you move to the middle of the country. This is a good starting point until you know the area. There are some apts 4 miles closer to your work but they are near peachtree industrial which has lots of riff raff.

I moved from Laguna Niguel/San Clement CA last year to Roswell GA
Hi,
I moved out from Cali last year to Roswell. My wife and I bought a house in Wexford not far from where you are looking to rent. We love it here and the schools are great, I hear that the Special Ed programs are very good, but I think Alpharetta schools fall under the same scale. Irvine Schools are some of the best in the country, so it's hard to compare.
Here is what I can say about crime, it's everywhere, even in Irvine California. We have an alarm, mainly because I travel for work my wife likes the added comfort feeling. I however are in the process of buying a handgun, just in case. Here in GA we are spread out much more then in CA, so it's alot easier for someone to be walking around unnoticed. I not trying to scare you, it's safe around here. The Alpharetta/Roswell area is a great place to live work and play. I hope this helps.

Hi! Thanks for the info. Glad to hear you like it there. I'm a little apprehensive, but I think once I get there and get to know the area I'll be fine. Did you have any experience renting when you first got there or did you go straight into a purchase?

We didn't rent first
We didn't rent first. We moved about 3 times right before we moved to GA. We sold our place in Cali , moved in with in-laws and then rented in calif or 2 months, then back to in-laws before we made the move. My wife wouldn't think of moving short term again anytime soon. We have two little boys and we couldn't think of doing it.
If we had to do it again and was willing to live short term, we would definity rent. Not that we don't love were we live, but we wouldn't have had to look at like 40 house in a weekend and then pick one. We would rent and find the house that is perfect and at the right price.
Again we love Roswell and wouldn't think about move out of here. Hope your move goes smooth.

Fulton county is divided North/South You want to be in the North section. People like myself and all other N. fulton residents when asked what county I/we live in we always say North Fulton! LOL! There is a big difference!
