Default Thinking of Moving to Lagrange

hi there, I am new to this forum so please excuse if I posted in the wrong area. It would be great if you direct me to the correct area.

Would like some opinions please on the Lagrange area. We are thinking of buying a second home possibly in the Lagrange area, over by the lake ( not sure what the name of the lake is ) .
It will be a home that once we buy it we will rent it (hopefully ) until we move to Lagrange after my hubby retires , about 7 yrs. In the mean time we are looking it as an investment for down the road.
we do plan on making a trip here and also to Greenville SC area. We are looking in both states to check out what the area's are like but I prefer Ga. why I don't know , maybe because the land is flatter and not so hilly And I've been to Savannah and loved it .
We really don't want in the city as I mentioned we will be retired and really just want out in a quiet area.
dumb question , do the grocery store close up early in LaGrange as I like to shop at night ,I know... I'm strange .
I would like opinions on if you think this would be a good investment for down the road and what the pro's & con's are for this area.

I sound like I'm an antique the way I wrote this LOL

Thanks for any and all help

Well LaGrange is my hometown so let me chime in on this one. LaGrange is quiet, peaceful... very little crime. The crime that IS there is concentrated in one of three areas... 2 of which surround the housing projects and another one is in between the two. As far as West Point Lake... there are some VERY nice lake houses in the area. I'd suggest Highland Marina, Mooty Bridge Rd or Country Club Rd. At most, LaGrange has MAYBE 1 or 2 murders a year and those are usually domestic. Now I will be honest... if you want nightlife, LaGrange is DEFINITELY NOT the place to be. But being that you're looking for a nice and quiet area I think you'd like it. As far as grocery stores, there are 4 Big ones... Publix, Kroger, Wal-Mart and one other one I cant remember. Both the Wal-Mart and Kroger stay open 24 hours. There is a pretty large retiree community on Country Club Rd... some very nice and expensive lake front houses in that area.. most of which have piers.

The presence of LaGrange College and the infusion into the community by the Callaway Foundation are two things that help LaGrange to rise a notch or two above other small cities in the state. I grew up in Hogansville, the small mill town one exit north toward Atlanta, so LaGrange is where we went to do anything besides the most basic shopping. West Point Lake is beautiful.

But this is home, I am stuck in Texas for at least 8 more years, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I wish I was back there so bad, I can taste it.
