It has been my personal experience that if you are the "one being looked upon" as opposed to an onlooker, it's not so enjoyable.

Hope this doesn't turn into another Katrina handout festival.

Hold your inner city politicians accountable, Atlanta!

What are you talking about?

1. Most of the damage is occuring outside of the city in the suburbs
2. Thus far, I'd say the authorities are doing a pretty darn good job of getting information out and repairing things asap. My county's doing a pretty decent job of trying to get these water pipes repaired so all of its customers can have water and we can get off this boil water order.
3. There was really no way to avoid this--it's been raining for 5-6 days straight and on Sunday the rainstorms just came one after another, after another. After a while, creeks are going to overflow, and rivers will crest.

On that note, out here in Douglasville...while we're ok...some of our neighbors just to the north, east, and west of us are not. I got a little emotional when I saw an old house that I pass every day on the way to work completely submerged underwater on the news.

Water pressure's back up, but we're still having to boil water, and I read that only 4 out of the 30something schools out here have running water at this point. Oh, and pretty much all points that lead eastward out of the county are blocked due to flooding--making me wonder how I'll get to work tomorrow.

Yeah it took me 2 hours to get home last night, when it usually takes me 30mins. They had 285 at Holloway Pkwy closed off, well they were diverting everyone off onto Holloway. I guess I will try all back roads tonight.

Thank GAWD that the Sun came out this afternoon and the forecasted rain didn't come. This saved a lot of headaches, homes, and most likely a life or two.

I also need to give a shout out to the Atlanta Red Cross. They were organized, ready, and had shelters and care offices setup almost immediately. Here is a great write up from CNN about their efforts in Austell:

Have been on the AJC website most of the past two days. Many of my FB friends in Cobb and Cherokee have posted amazing pics but so far noone I know personally has been affected. One friend that works on 92 in Woodstock had her Van saved by coworkers that moved all the employee's cars to higher ground when they saw Noonday Creek rising fast.

Praying for all those that have lost so much.

On a positive note, it was nice to see everyone working together and helping others out. It just goes to show that we all still have kindness in our hearts. Please, let it continue..........!!!!!

My son's school is collecting school supplies for the school that flooded. I'm guessing most of the schools in the area are doing the same.
