give me a day or two to study the maps but as you know, the trick is to exit 85 either before or after 285 and take the back roads.

You could exit 85 at oakcliff/pleasantdale or even jimmy carter and go west to buford highway, then west to peachtree industrial. Once on peachtree industrial, go south...there is a great backdoor way to northside...via johnson ferry road.
Or you could exit 85 after 285 at chamblee tucker or clairmont, and take either of those roads to the peachtree industrial/johnson ferry road intersection and northside is a few miles away.

If traffic on 85 is smooth, then I would take the chamblee tucker exit/road to clairmont to peachtree industrial to johnson ferry. If 85 traffic is bad, then I would exit as far north as possible then take buford highway or peachtree industrial south and try to get to that johnson ferry/peachtree intersection.

Give me some more time to think about it but i doubt there is any quicker ways. They key is to use the johnson ferry road back road route and to get to that you need to get to peachtree industrial.

The fastest way would be 285 W to Peachtree Dunwoody Rd...take a left off of the ramp, and it's right there on the left. However, if you're 285-averse:

Exit Clairmont, turn right
Clairmont dead ends into Peachtree Industrial; turn left
Head down Peachtree until you come to Ashford Dunwoody Rd (at Peachtree Golf Club); turn right
Ashford Dunwoody merges with Johnson Ferry Rd at the Publix; be sure to veer to the left to get on to Johnson Ferry after the light (you will go by the front of Cambridge Square Shopping Center; Ashford Dunwoody veers to the right)
Head down Johnson Ferry for 3 mi or so until you reach the intersection of Peachtree Dunwoody Rd; turn right and you will encounter St Joseph's on the right, just after the Marriott Courtyard on the corner.

here is a map snippet which shows the backdoor way to northside. As it shows, you could exit 85 at chamblee tucker and take it to johnson ferry road.

Default thanks

thanks for these alternatives; I will try one this morning; luckily I do not have to try it in rush hour, so I will get my bearings first for turns etc., and then plunge into a rush hour test!
