Charlotte vs. Atlanta
Does anyone have any insight on comparing Charlotte with Atlanta. I am in my early to mid thirties and single. I lived in Chicago for 12 years and loved being able to walk to so much outside of my apartment. I loved urban living, but hated the expense. I also didn't like the weather and the lack of outdoor sports to do in Chicago. But now I am looking to relocate to either Charlotte or Atlanta. I have been to both cities several times, and I have family in Atlanta. I was wondering to get some information from people who actually live there as far as urban living, cost of living, commuting, entertainment, culture, and outdoorsiness(?)

you're more likely to be hit by a car in Atlanta. I've been to Charlotte and it's much more walkable downtown.

You know this thread will probably get shut down due to the way the last Atlanta vs. Charlotte thread went with people bickering over the Color Purple.

I live in Charlotte, and I want to move to Atlanta. Charlotte's downtown is not very big and you can only walk a couple of blocks where there are actually things to do. Atlanta has Downtown, Midtown (Piedmont Park is awesome and nothing in Charlotte compares), and Buckhead and lots of other places like Virginia Highlands, Little Five Points, and East Atlanta plus Decatur is not too far away and Charlotte doesn't really have anything like those places. To sum it up, Charlotte is like an overgrown country town. Trust me... Atlanta will be an easy adjustment for you, especially if you already have family there.

I've lived in all three. Actually Chicago would be my favorite. I wouldn't rely on it being that much cheaper in Charlotte or Atlanta. Illinois actually has a lower income tax than GA or NC. I actually like Charlotte too but I think it you want something similar to Chicago, I would go to Atlanta.

Midtown is very walkable and a great place. Not sure how you'd get hit by a car with the wonderful wide sidewalks and tree lined streets in midtown.

I would say Atl as well. Although, Charlotte is walkable it only covers a very small area. You'll have more to choose from in Atl and there is definitely more for singles as well. I feel the Carolina cities are more for families.

But a much higher sales tax, a much higher registration fee for cars, much more expensive parking........
