Weekend getaway for fall
We are looking for a place to enjoy the fall colors this year along with a few friends. We go to the smoky mountains every year and would like to do something different this time. Any suggestions for a place that's about 2 hrs drive around Atlanta?

Talladega National Forest in Alabama is another good option.

Depending on the color this fall, a drive up 400, over through Clarksville and Cleveland and then up 23/441 to Highlands/Cashiers(or staying 'down mountain' if you prefer, Dillard, Franklin, etc) can be beautiful. Perfect if it's a nice day and you have the top down! If you are going up toward Highlands, watch out for the mid-morning sun 'strobing' through the trees...same problem headed back down 1-2 hours before sunset(with the afternoon sun). We hope to make that 125 mile trip in a few weeks(after we make the 1000 mile trip from Austin to Atlanta!).
