My Austell house was wrecked in the flood. Insurance/funding advice please
Firstly my sympathies go out to those who have suffered much worse losses than myself.
I recently bought a home in Austell (Douglas County)
I have regular insurance, but never dreamed I would need flood insurance.
I live out of state.
I was planning to have this house for my retirement (possibly renting it out in the interim).
So that is where I lose out, as FEMA only helps those who have damage to their primary residence.
I was told by multiple people that due to the fact that this is not a 'normal' flood, but rather a 'declared' natural disaster (or now a 500 year flood), that this forces the insurance co. to cover my losses. Is this true ??
What other recourse do I have?
The damage is bad. It is not just water, . . . it was knocked right off its foundation. (I am not sure how to post a photo)
Are there any programs or grants besides FEMA that helps people who are simply homeowners, and not homesteaded residents.
There are a bunch of duplexes around the corner. Does anyone know what the owners are doing in a situation like that?
At this point, I wish I could forget about rebuilding the house, and just get back some of the cost to rebuild my life only.
Thank you for advice and info.
