Best town to live and commute to Norcross
Hello Everyone:
My Family and I are relocating to Georgia from South Florida at the end of 2008. My husband will be working from home, but I will be transfering from my job in Norcross. We have a 5-year old child which will attend a Private Christian School. Taking into consideration the terrible traffic that eveyone talks about, we would your suggestions on places to live where the commute to Norcross is not so bad. House value no more than $300k. Thank you all for your help!
One more thing...for those of you who have lived in South Florida and relocated to Atlanta, how does the traffic compares?

I guess you don't know which school yet, since the end of 2008 is pretty far away. Why not live in Norcross? You should certainly have a nice selection in your price range, though not new homes.
There are several private schools in Norcross...

I agree with lastminutemom. The end of 2008 is a long way off so who knows what north metro towns will be like then but if I had to choose now I would pick Norcross or Johns Creek.

Peachtree corner (or West Norcross) is very nice. It is close to town.

I did the Miami to Ft Lauderdale commute for two years and Atlanta traffic is not as bad as that. Also, the rush hours here are the busy times unlike South Florida where it is busy almost all day and night.
Good luck house hunting, we loved it up here because the prices were so much less than Florida, it was like being in a candy store!

We moved here from S. Florida in February for the same reason as the prevoius poster. We moved to Cobb though and it was a bit pricier than Gwinett. But I like it over there. Don't know much about Norcross but from what I have heard I wouldn't live there. A nice house with questionable neighbors and surrounding areas isn't worth it. I'd lookin Duluth, possibly SugarLoaf ? The traffic sucks no doubt. Friday's here are the worst. But it depends on where in South Florida you live. Its defintely worse than Fort Lauderdale but probably not as bad as Miami

Please take looking West Norcross (peachtree corner) area before making that comment. Trader's Joe won't exist in a lousy neighborhood and there are only four of them in Atlanta. West Norcross is also one of most expensive neighborhoods in the Gwinnett (search under Simpson elementary school), there are only a handful of subdivisions under 300K.
By the way, the not so nice area of Norcross is not even within city of Norcross city limit (people in city of Norcross must hate that). Historic Norcross (city of Norcross itself) is actually one of nicest place in Atlanta.

Thank you all for your kind replies. My husband and I will be visiting North Atlanta in the next two weeks. We will definitely look into the areas you all suggested.

So where exactly is the 'bad part' of Norcross? My husband will be working there, and we've been excluding it because of the census reports, and the fact that the only good public elementary school is Simpson. We really don't want an older home.

Buford Hwy--Jimmy Carter Blvd--Beaver Ruin Rd--to Lilburn--Oakbrook Pkwy--
Here's a link with some background FYI>>>

I have to say that there seems to be an upward turn --how long it will take to really stabilize this corridor I cannot say.
Drive up Buford Hwy or Peachtree Pkwy/Ptree Industrial and look at all the new growth...John's Creek/Forsyth County--Suwanee and so many others--
