Hi everyone,

My husband and I just moved to Alpharetta a few months ago and love it here. I however am unable to work because we are from Canada, and I am still pending my EAD (Employment Authorization Document), and I don't start school until January, so I am going kind of crazy with boredom.

I was hoping someone could shed some light on classes, or groups that are around. Whether it be cooking classes, fitness classes, Beginner sewing/crochet/knitting, etc. - anything interesting. It would be really nice to meet some friendly people, as well as have some me time and a hobby to keep me occupied.

*Note: I am a 25 year old woman, with no children (yet).

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Try a pottery class. I think they offer them at Discover Mills and others malls. Also, why don't you invite your neighbors to go running or invite them to a neighborhood party? In addition, you can go to any gym and signup for the many classes they have.

Find a church. One with friendly, outgoing people with small groups that encourage people to meet and form relationships. Most churches also provide volunteer opportunities that will introduce you to community needs and you will get back much more than you give.

There are several meetup groups that do evening walks at Newtown Park and The Greenway, and at least 1 group that goes to the movies every so often. Look for it on meetup.com.

Whole Foods in Johns Creek and Williams Sonoma at the Forum at Norcross sometimes does cooking classes.

Fulton County Libraries (Ocee, Spruill Oaks, etc) have book groups and volunteer work.

There are a number of gyms, including the Y, that have plenty of people to meet.
