I love the fact that Atlanta (for the most part) has 4 different and distinct seasons.
It's very possible to wear shorts throughout the winter in Atlanta, at least in the daylight hours. I do it all the time - and I see lots of people all around the city that do as well...from my summer wardrobe of shorts/t-shirt/sandals I simply add shoes/socks, a sweatshirt or jacket, and baseball hat. My legs from knee to shin aren't so fragile that they can't be uncovered.

It has been pretty cold the past few days...but I often walk to the mailbox wearing shorts and barefoot.

Houston and Atlanta have similiarities in one area and that is they both have plenty to do for a young professional...the difference is when you reach 35 and up in ATL you tend to see the city for it's limitation in the type of events, culture and networking it has and you think, there's gotta be better than this. The pretentiousness in Houston is alot different than in Atlanta. People are friendlier in Houston than Atlanta. The crime, racial issues and education is about the same, not much of a difference between the two. The diversity is better in Houston though...you will see a multitude of races there, it's vast. Housing cost better and cost of living a little better than ATL. If you enjoy the outdoors, such as hiking, camping, etc...then Texas falls a little short and Georgia does offer than, with a communte. The better place is Dallas of course or anywhere in the metroplex, but I prefer Houston over Atlanta. I have lived in both places (Houston and Atlanta), but I ended up in Dallas though, better education system.

Atlanta rail service is better than Houston, our weather is better, Atlanta is more pretty, Atlanta has more entertainment, Atlanta has nicer malls, Atlanta has better zoning laws, etc.

Both cities are cheap, both cities are good for professionals, etc

Let's see. Some differences Atlanta has over Houston: currently has better rail service, nicer scenery, more seasons, busier airport, and in the media more often, etc. Some differences Houston has over Atlanta: denser core/urban area, better road/freeway system, flat, near a beach, more diverse, etc. Some similarities are that both are ragged on by Norheastern cities, both metro areas grew by well over a million this past decade, both do sprawl, both are expanding their rail systems, etc.

houston may be near a beach but the beaches of galveston are not that great. Atlanta on the other hand is 3 hours from the savannah beaches, south carolina beaches, and about 4-5 hours from north florida beaches. So a day trip to the beach isn't all that bad and those beaches are waaay prettier and nicer than galveston island.
