six flags in january
Hey everyone, me and my wife are coming up to ATL from Fl in january...prolly beginning of Jan. I'm trying to think of things to do while were here. We come up a lot cause my little brother lives in duluth. This time I think we want to go ice skating and possibly six flags. My question is do people still go in january? I've looked at weather charts and seems to get pretty cold out during this month. Is it to cold to visit the park? I'm sure we can find something else to do but I sure do like Goliath!

Well, considering that that park closes on November 1st and doesn't open again until spring, I think have a hard time riding Goliath.

The IceForum off of Satellite Blvd in Duluth. It has 2 indoor rinks, but I think they reserve one rink for professional use. This is where the Thrashers practice. They also have another area away from the ice where they sell hot chocolate -- the kids love that.
Just find out what time they open and get there early; don't be surprised to see a line of people 15 or 20 minutes before they open.

I used to go here all the time and loved it! I'm not one of those who trashes suburbs for the hell of it, as the draw for The Cooler is how clean and new everything is up in Alpharetta and the proximity to North Point Mall. The Cooler also doubles as a roller skating rink (at least the last time I went) so you can do both if you want.

Anybody remember when the Omni International (now CNN Center) had the large indoor ice rink in the middle of the main floor?

I know you are asking for indoor ice-skating, but outdoor ice-skating sounds so fun (and romantic) in middle of downtown (Centennial Olympic Park). Here is the link: Ice Skating Rink

I remember the Omni International long before CNN Center even existed. I cannot remember the ice rink unless it was after the Flames packed up and moved away.

The ice rink was there from the beginning, along with The World of Sid and Marty Kroft. It might have been gone before the Flames.
