Default State Jobs Prefer In-state over Out of state applicants?

I'm from Ga I recently applied for a job with one of the state agencies in ga. At the meeting there were a lot of out of state applicants. I was wondering if anyone knew does GA prefer "homegrown" applicants or not. With "homegrown" I mean attended state schools and was born in GA. Thanks!

I can't speak for GA, but most state agencies hire from state residents, yes.

State does get preference but it also depends on where you've gone to school and who you know...

I work for the State of Georgia and yes they prefer in state applicants. Some of the state agencies don't even bother with your education, your location is more relevant. Just realize that in Georgia the Counties pay more than the state! *Also the state has forloughed some jobs and froze pay raises with others.

Good luck!

It depends on the agency and job. They prefer in state since there is no need to deal with background checks from 3rd parties and relocation expenses etc.
