Default Setting up Natural Gas/Heat in Lawrenceville

I called the City of Lawrenceville to set up natural gas to heat my house.
THey said that they have to do a credit check before they can turn on the gas.

The credit check deems how much deposit you should pay. The max amount is $800.

I asked if they have a pricing list depending on what your credit score is. They stated no, equifax just tells them how much one should put down.

I just bought a house so naturally your credit goes down. What happens if I have to pay $800. Do i just freeze.

Did anyone go through this and is there a way around it......

Do you have to use the city? I live in unicorporated Gwinnett ( none of the local cities control my area) and we are able to choose. I had Jackson EMC because the city wanted $400 with Jackson I spent $250. Also you may want to see who all services your area.

The Georgia Public Service Commission is the official authority on most utility services in Georgia. For a complete list of electric, natural gas, and telephone providers, go to www.psc.state.ga.us or call 404.656.4501.

They can tell you whether or not you ive in inc. or unin. Gwinnett. Then ask for a list of providers who can service your area.

Here is the county's website as well.

Good Luck

To the Original thread poster,

THe alternative to not having your credit checked is to pay whatever the highest bill there. If you want to opt-out allowing your credit to be checked they will have you pay 2x's the highest bill. In some cases, it may be like paying the $800. My credit is Terribly bad and I was quoted $400. However, I was given the option to do $380 which was the highest bill ($190) twice. I'm like well as crazy at it seemed payed the $380 because that extra $20 could go in my pocket. After all we are still in the recession..

The average low for Atlanta in January is around 34 degrees F (1 degree C), and it's gotten down as low as 12 degrees F (-11 degrees C) on our house thermometer here in Mableton.

That's getting into the chilly range even by my Minnesota standards. It's not a life-threatening cold, but I wouldn't want to sleep in it.

Of course, I still wear shorts and a tee-shirt in that weather. But I seem to be more cold-tolerant than some people.

The record for my area is -8F (-22C). That's coat weather for me.
