I took these yesterday in my neighborhood. These show a little bit of Fall color. I would guess we are 2-3 weeks away from peak color in Atlanta, but the rains today seem to be knocking all the leaves off the trees before they can really show their magic.
Anyway, enjoy.

Great pics!
This Fall has been amazing so far and it's just starting. I'm hoping I can get up to Stone Mountain next weekend and take some panoramic shots of the city from the top. Nothing can been rolling hills and forests of North Georgia.

Thanks, waronxmas!
I totally agree with you. I know I've said it before, but I consider us to be very fortunate to live in such a beautiful area of the Country.

Some of the pics in Google Maps are actually up to 2-3 years old, depending on when they started putting around the neighborhoods. You can even see variations. For instance, if you "drive" virtually North on Peachtree Road in Brookhaven approaching the MARTA station there, it's a dark, drab, cloudy Winter day and then POOF - not a cloud in the sky and sunny. They obviously stopped one day at one point and resumed another day. I know that the pics in Powder Springs makes it just about look like the Apocalypse - dark, cloudy, drizzly, Winter. Ugh. Doesn't help if people are looking around for neighborhoods to house hunt in.
If you zoom in enough on Google Maps I think somehow sometimes thumbnails of pics show up and you can click on them and view those pics. Those are submitted by viewers and can be updated and new, but when you click them you area actually diverted to a site called "Panoramio" - a photo site that works with Google, but it's not the same as their "street view" stuff.

When do you think the leaves should be at peak at Stone Mountain?

It's looking like the foliage will peak all across the city this week and into next.
You should be able to get great views though at the summit from now until probably around thanks giving. It's going to a long Autumn this year

I think the areas around Druid Hills, Lake Clair, and even just south by Oak Grove had their pictures taken for Google maps in the fall. That's what the op was talking about.

One advantage of pictures taken in the winter is that one gets a better view of the lay of the land with the foliage down. In some areas it looks like a green curtain is pulled across a piece of property in summer viewing. Prettier for a picture but if you want to get an idea of the contour of the land or what may lie more than a few feet into a property, winter viewing is more revealing.
It does help if the day is sunny. The dark gloominess in winter doesn't do any place justice in photos.
