Most black voters simply do not want to see a white mayor. If this wasnt the case, then there would have been a white mayor by now. The common sentiment remains the same - if you arent black, you cant become mayor of Atlanta.

The Maynard Machine is corrupt - it has to go. I think the only way this is going to happen is if more whites move into the city and elect a non-machine mayor, but whether that candidate is white, asian, hispanic probably wont matter.

I also agree Norwood handled the republican thing badly, especially with that commercial and saying she couldnt remember. But I still do not think she is a republican. Nothing she has said agrees with the beliefs of the republican party. Attending a convention doesnt make you a republican. She shouldnt have to even talk about her affiliation, as the mayor is a non-partisan office.
Like I said before, what about Scott King? Or what about US Rep Steve Cohen who represents a majority black district that encompasses most of Memphis? He was elected despite racial mudslinging by clergymen. Oh well...

Man am I glad this didn't happen! /sarcasm off

You do understand that whites voting in huge numbers for Mary Norwood is also voting along racial lines?

Now, show me a black candidate that can win a state wide election in Georgia. Even black republicans don't stand a chance (i.e. Herman Cain). Voting along racial lines goes both ways.

Seems like you're only against it when blacks do it.
